Show U. S. MINE ACTIVE; NEWTRANSF0RMER5 B E I N GJHSTALLED The most active spot in the Bingham District at the present time is the properties of the United Unit-ed States Smelting Refining and Mining Company. It seems this large producer has a way of "carrying on" through times good or bad, with relentless vigor. It will be recalled this company operated at or near capacity during dur-ing the depression period of 1921. This helped in a very substantial way, to tide the camp over the time when many other producers were closed down. J Today the U. S. mine is the only major property here operating at any thing like normal capacity. While the U. S. is not producing nearly so much metal as is usual at its Bingham properities, a full crew of men are on the payrolls and an extensive program of de-velopmenl de-velopmenl is being carried on both in the original holdings and also in the recently acquired Bingham Mines territory. Low cost production is said to be a most important factor in enabling en-abling U. S. to continue its extensive ex-tensive operations uninterupted during times of depressed metal prices The management has attained at-tained a remarkable degree of economic efficiency in development develop-ment and operation. To this, perhaps, per-haps, more than to any other cause, may be attributed - the ability of the company to maintain main-tain a normal payroll ,when so many , other industries are operating oper-ating with greatly reduced forces. New Equipment The United States S. R. and M. C. is now installing new high voltage transformers at Copper-field, Copper-field, in preparation for a heavier electric power load. The new transformers will take care of a 1 44-thousand volt load and be suf- ' ficient ro take care of all the pow-j er needs of the company for the present time. j Installation of the transformers jis being done by the mining com-'pany. |
