GRANGER LAKETOWN NEWS ' UTAH PROJECTS-- Randolph. Utah. Friday March 30. 1945 The Bureau of Reclamation this week agreed to pay the entire cost of the construction of the high line canals conveying water from Newton Dam in Cache County. This decision ends a controversy that har been under discussion for some time The Newton Dam itself is almost completed. The Schofield Dam on the Price River that has been under construe tion for some time is nine months behind schedule due primarily to labor shortages. This project has been moved up into the catagory of an essential war plant. The con tractors are at liberty to recruit sufficient labor to permit the work-:n- g of three shifts per day. It is contemplated that this project will be completed within the year 1945 The Huntington Canyon Mohr-lan- d Access Highway in Emery County has finally been approved for construction. This will materially shorten the distance and reduce ,the cost in the transportation of coal from the mines in the Huntington can von area to the railhead at Mohrland. BRITAIN ASSIGNS HOSPITAL TRAINS AND SHIPS ' TO U. S. ARMY The Mesdames Hattie Mattson, Josephine Lamborn, Alice H. Johnson, Ethel Irvin, Florence Day and Conrad Irvin spent Thursday at Evanston visiting the George and Clifford Henderson family and on returning stopped at the Ruel Hatch ranch to visit Mrs. Sarah Hatch and family. Mr. and Mrs. Thos. G. Weston went to Evanston, Wyo., Friday to get their daughter-in-laMrs. Gifford Weston and daughter Shirla Gay. Saturday morning they took them to Wollsville to toe with Mrs. Westons family, the Wyatts. Gifford being transferred. Mr. and Mra. L. D. Lamborn took Mrs. F. Day and Mrs. Alice Johnson to St. Charles Friday. Mrs. Johnson remained until Sunday. ' Cecil Windiey, ranch .hand at the Stanley Mattson ranch at Meadow-viliwas taken to the Bear Lake hospital Friday where an appendectomy was performed. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Norris and Mr. and Mrs. Farrell Johnson were Logan and Wellsville visitors Sunday. SSgt. Howard Eller came Saturday from Ca'ifnrria and remained until Monday. His mother, Mu,. Chas. They all reported having had a very nice time. Mrs. Fern Comia .and Mae Eastman returned home this week. They have been to California visiting Mr. Glen Cornia who is stationed there. Mr. and Mrs. Louis Stuart and family motored to Logan Saturday to spend the week end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dean Peterson. Barbara Nicholls accompanied these folks. A. L. BIRTHDAY CLUB HONORS LADY The K. A. L. Birthday club honored Carrie Marshall with a birthday party Wednesday, March 21., at the home of Mrs. Bess Rex. Dainty refreshments were served by Mrs. Rex and Mrs. Annie McKinnon. It was a day almost perfect. Even the weatherman doing his best with beautiful sunshine. We are all wishing for many more happy birthdays for you, Carrie. Corp. Roy K. Eastman, 21, son of George W. and Sarah L. Eastman, of Ogden, was killed in action on' Iwo Jima volcano Island, Feb. 20, while serving with the Fifth, division of the U. S. Marines, according to word received from Washington, D. C. Corp. Eastman was bom in Woodruff, Aug. 9, 1923. He attended Morgan public schools and the Davis county high school, and was employed by the' Woods f Cross manning Co..' and the Layton Sugar Co., prior to' entering the service from 1 Clearfield. He enlisted in the marine corprf boot Feb. 12, 1943, and received He Calif. at San Diego, training then joined the paratroop division and went overseas in September, 1943. He participated in the battle of the Solomons, on Bougainville and Croiseul, where the secor, I paratroop battalion won a citation. The paratroopers were then sent to the states, and Corp. Eastman had a furlough in February of 1944. He was placed in the Fifth marine divison and again went overseas in August of 1944. Surviving are his parents and the following brothers and sisters:, E Sam G. Easthan, Milton, Wash.; Eastman. Evanston, Wyo.; Corp. Conray B. Eastman, prisoner of the Japanese in the Philippines when last heard from; Pvt. Vaughn G. Eastman, somewhere ip the Philippines; Mrs. Eula Fotheringham, of Ogden; Mrs. Sarah Carter, Morgan; Mrs. Bert Giles, Hueneme, Calif.; a maternal grandmother, Hattie S. Bryson, Bountiful. 30-d- ay F. WALTON KILLED IN ACTION Lt. Wayne A. Walton, son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Walton of Salt Lake City, whose widow also resides in Salt Lake, was killed on Luzon Feb. 21, when his plane was hit by enemy fire, forcing him into the ocean, where his plane exploded. He was born April 19, 1922, and entered the army in February, 1943. He received his pilots wings at Stockton!, Calif., in March, 1944, and went overseas in .November, 1944. He vlras graduated from Gran ite high school and formely attended the University of Utah. Survivors include his parents, widow; a sister, Faye Walton, and a brother, Eugene Walton, all of Salt Lake City.
