Show U S H 0 N 0 CHAIN STORES FOR WAR HELP A citation ol of merit from secretary of the treasury henry jr first to be awarded a utah trade as was presented the utah chain stores association today for distinguished services ser vicea rendered in behalf of the national war savings program charles R mabey war savings administrator for utah presented the citation to harry L hoagland president of the chain store group whose member stores placed the stamps on sale in august 1941 and have been in ceasing their sales steadily since that time accompanying the citation was a letter from F B E chief of the retail stores division of the war savings staff in washington D C expressing appreciation tor for the important assistance you have given the war savings program the treasury department is most appreciative of your good work pul tes letter said we feel sure that what you axe are doing will speed the day when our common purpose of winning the war shall be achieved the citation is is in recognition of the patriotic spirit of the employees and executives of our member stores from st george to logan hoagland declared their efforts to increase sales of stamps and bonds are inspiring and they have pledged that they will continue these efforts as long as the war lasts I 1 hoagland is manager of the salt lake city J C penney store which won the companas comp anys nationwide savings stamp and bond sales contest last july employees of his store sold worth of stamps and bonds more than any other store in the system the comp anys national sales for the month totaled more than abely one per cent of the nation total |
