| Show SCHOOLS OF RICH COUNTY GO ON 6 DAY WEEK thel schools of rich munty county have attempted to contribute their part to a solution of some of our present war time problems by going on a six day school week the experience of th the past several s years has shown that school attendance becomes a very acute problem with the beginning begin nin of spring work during the last weeks of the school year this year because of the war labor shortage will be greater than ever this means that the urge to leave school before the end of the term will be very great at the same time education and school training are constantly becoming a greater necessity it is in an attempt to maintain decent standards of education and at the same time release students for spring work that the six day school week was put into operation in many cases this plan works a de finate hard sh p on both parents and school people for teachers custodians and bus drivers saturday has been the only day in the week open for private or personal affairs perhaps the greatest sacrifice is placed on the school lunch cooks who must serve on that day without pay dae to the fact that the tha hours per month cannot be increased without a special cial ruling from washington yet all these people are willing to do their part it if it will help in the present emergency one problem still remains it will be impossible 1 to have students absent themselves from school on saturday and at the same time get out early in it the spring A vote of all school irons shows a division of about 70 per t to 30 per cent in favor of the six day week it if all the patrons will support n art a six day school week 1 school will close two weeks earlie rth a scheduled if school attendance on saturday is not sup supported p arted a five day week will be re spurned and school credit allowed only to those vho aho remain to the end of ac haicl since a majority favor the six day week it becomes the duty of all to adopt and support that plan |
