Friday June 3, 1938 '' Garden City News FUNERAL SERVICES FOR THE POPE LAD , , ' m ' l - iiw.m.1 1 - Funeral services were held on Tues day. May 24, 1938 for Royal Ladd Pope who passed away Friday. May 20th. Many beautiful floral tributes, as well as many tributes offered to the family of a well lived 'life, were given by the following speakers : BWh op Lawrence Johnson of the Randolph Ward; Elder E. M. Pugmire' of Garden City; Bishop Harrison of The Iwiston Ward, a relative of Mrs. Arden Pope. Bishop P. A. Spence was rhe concluding speaker. Music was furnished by the singing mothers. The body of the chapel was well full ed with friends and relatives of the family from neighboring towns, several car loads coming from Lewiston, Utah. Joshua Eldredge was born in the old fort situated in what is now Pioneer Park in Salt Lake City, July 11, 1848, a son of Elnathan and Ruth Baker Eldredge, 1847 pioneers. In his early manhood he was called by Brigham Young to settle Meadowville, where he spent a number of years ranching. He later moved to Randolph and engaged in the mercantile business, which he ran for a number of years. He was always an active church member. Mr. Eldredge married Lizzie AVinder iu 1875, she dying in October 1884. Three years after her death, he married Susannah Hodges, who died Apr. 31, 1925. Surviving are a son Walter J. Eldredge cf Salt Lake City; two daughters, Mrs. Richard Weston, of Meadowville, and Mrs. Ruben K Hardy of Salt Lake City, and a niece, Mrs. Ernest McKinnon of Randolph, whom he reared..
