primarily for hunting and fishing lut but there was inether object in MOW in addition to the gentlemen named there were C N stillman bt illman hank and J E heppler Heppl cr charles J E dark clark and john hood this sar same ne company with the exception of smyth and tuft made a I 1 trip trio into the lake region last summer SOME BIG FISH the party camped in grass valley the first night out the lake was reached at noon on the second day the party made camp at twin creeks one of the prettiest spots in all utah two streams of crystal wa water ter run from the mountains to the lake and between them the distance is not more than fifty feet here a I 1 beautiful green sward Is 11 coutil and on his the noonday meal was partaken partaker par taken of here too E E hoffmann orson orion keeler jack ind ole nielsen were found busily engaged in fishing ashing in the lake hoffman and had a canvis canvas boat while keelor keeler and ole occupied rafts while theophers the others stood watching Hof frolin landed two splendid specimens of fish one native and the other an eastern brook trout each deigned two wo and a half pounds the lake w was is rough as the wind was blowing heavily from the south this made fishing uncertain hoffmann and keeler feeler had made some phenomenal phe nominal catches during the time they were at the he lake kieler landed an eastern brock trout which weighed six sit pounds a and nd got one Neigh weighing ing five and a half tn lake abounds in splendid fish the eastern brook w eie planted in the lake seven years since and thea the have increased much m more ore rapidly than the native fish while fishing the gentlemen found four eastern brook fish to one native A hatchery for the prorogation of the fish is one of the necessities in this excellent body of water there should be several millions of trout added to the lake each year or it w will ill not be a great time until the lake is fished out the eastern brook seem to thrive even better than the native fish ROAD MATTERS DISCUSSED while at this point the party from richfield met supervisor smith who had made an appointment with mr air thompson to meet here and discuss the mattir matt r of a good road to the lake it was found from maps produced by the supervisor that the southern bounds of the forest die did not take in the country where the bad roads are encountered A large tract of land containing some valuable timber on the south and neat had been left out of the forest after discussing the matter of a road supervisor smith stated that he had drawn a petition to have hae two additional tiers of sections added to the forest which N aich would bring the forest boundary bound boun diry iry near the foot of the heavy hills hill east of burrville Burr ville Nille and koosharem Koo sharem if this is done one then government goern ment aid can be had for the construction of the road ov over er the h ardest part of the road lead ing to the lake k NEW ROUTE IS PROPOSED while on the journey to the lake ind while the horses were toiling up the long and steep hill from grass valley to retch the summit of the range of hills lying between cras crags valley and the lake stillman Sl illman lard and dark clark made the journey on foot skirting a canyon cannon to the north or th of the road travelled by the tha teams it was discovered dise that a real road could be made through this cindon which would eliminate the heay hill which has been climbed for veirs heirs the cost of construction through the ca cinon on will not be more thin and an la i as gradt gradl lan can thus be binyon WAYNE COUNTY ROAD the ro roid id which at present leads to loi is one of continuous climbing foi rn rc than half the distance beaw between een burr burrville ille ville and loi loa the roid rod leads from one hogback hobbick hog bick to another for miles and is as each ridge is climbed there is a descent on the other side and then a climb to reach the not next thereby making a road which is a continuous up and down doin series of ridges ridge arid and hollows hollos with a road through the canyon spoken of all this will be eliminated and a comparatively easy grade maintained to reich loa so much impressed with the beauties of the lake that IN will ill do all in their power to interest the utah congressional delegation in the project ot of a good road to the lake these gentlemen can call be of much assistance si sL in the matter and the people c of this county can be b assured of all possible aid which they cm can cecur HUNTING AND FISHING after the road matta ra had blell ben b en disposed of the baity wended bended its way along the lake intending to camp at jorgan jorgenson on creek this plan was abandoned and the johnson reservoir was visited just below the dm dim where the dirty devil river begins carp ca rp was pitched while some of the party prepared for the night the others were nere busy with rod and line and soon there was wag a string of speckled beauties for the menu thursday v w as spent in fishing and 0 er a hundred fine trout were secured on that evening smyth tuft and clark des deserted desei cited ted the parts parti and returned to the camp of hoffmann et al I 1 and they were acre seen no more by the members of their original parta they fished and hunted around the lake and in the grass valley re reservoir arriving home on saturday afternoon DUCKS ARE LARGE the balance of the party on friday morning started a bombard bombardment nent of the ducks that made a little meadow their home a mile or so below the dam on the river here thompson the two Hepp lers and stillman showed their ability with the gun hood and were miserable failures through the abili ties of the hunters ot the parta teal duel duck was added to the menu of the camp the pirty then returned to the lake and on frida friday evening another eliugh ter of ducks took place the ducks in the lake region are much larger than those of the valley mr air thompson who is a member of one or more of the gun clubs of sa salt it lake ind and who has hunted ducks in most sections of the state slid said he ne neer er siw such splendid mallards and gri due ducks as those at the lake chickens ind and grouse were scirce in the hills eight small pheasants phe rants were all that were seen on the trip ind and these made one of toe meals for the ahe parta the bunch
