as to the genuineness of the city councils intention to push the cement sidewalk proposition to a finish fillish that doubt would have been dispelled on last thursday maht had they attended the meeting of the council there were many propositions eions and matters of interest to the city before that body at the timp time mentioned but the sidewalk matter is the overshadowing one ad ad may be aptly termed the paramount isue i sue in rich field municipal affairs the matter was lj brought rought up and discussed when the resolution reso luton which ahn h the city attorney attorn Ly prepared for publication was submitted this resolution which appears in another part of thab thi issue announces announced the to the property owners in the created paving district that the council will begin the installation of c client ment walks within the legal time after the publication of the notice the committee on streets was reada read with information as to the cost of the walks frum from information received from other towns and cities in the state ane cost will be about 15 cents per foot in discussing dic the matter it was decided to make the width of the cement walk ix ix feet and ast north street in the vicinity of his own residence would petition for the crea tion of a district there as soon as the other work was v as commenced and it is likely that a I 1 district comprising two blocks west from main alain street will be included the condition of the waterways in the cemetery for the conducting of the surplus water ads submitted bj councilmen hinsen hansen and jensen in a report r on that matter last summer there was a freshet frum from cottonwood which submerged a large portion of the cemetery and it is necessary that some protection be provided to avoid this unfortunate condition again since the state has been enlarging the sevier valley canal which passes close to the south west corner it will be impossible impo sible to conduct the water from the cemetery without the construction st of an under shute bute to carra carr the water under the canal it is pro posed to try and get an under shute constructed at the south east corner and failing in that a deep drain will have to be constructed along alone the south side and the waters carried to a point south and west of the cemetery and thus drained under the canal the committee was instructed to have a heavy bank thrown around the cline tery on the north and west sides to ward off floods the state is figuring on taking care of the flood waters from cottonwood by the construction of a dyke and waterway and will carry hood flood waters over or under the canal at a point north of the cemetery and the engineer addressed a communication to the council askier the city to j in in this prop proposed obed ake construction but no action was taken at pic sent an ordinance provi providing dir 19 for t tte te tt e maintenance and construction of irrigating ditches in the city was presented but after some discus discussion bion the fact that the legislature is now considering a bill making taxes for such pur lo 10 0 PS es payable at the bame time and pla e as other property pro pirty taxes was as presented and any action on the proposed ordinance was deferred for the pr t lent ent the committee on oil streets was instructed truc ted to inquire into certain complaints from citizens in the south east part of the city as to the disposition of the refuse water from the laundry A communication to the ma maor from business men of gunnison was r rad ad asking if the city would consider a proposition of a to lo at al telephone exchange to connect all the towns of the county and submitting estimates of telephone 2 kmenta and equipment from leae roebuck of chicago there was no animated discussion of the condition of center street adjacent to the unfinished building of jensen young which was brought up by councilman martin christen sen ell the water ditch runs well ginto into the street and has been running there for a matter of nearly three i ears and the open spice space between the retaining wall and the building was condemned the supervisor was instructed to notify jensen ond and young to return the ditth ditch to its proper place and to cover the alleged trap which runs alongside of the building if the order is not complied with the supervisor is to proceed to remedy the ex asting conditions and restore the street to it its proper condition and the cost will be a assessed against the owners of the building council then adjourned |
