Show republican MEETING spry and howell tall talk to voters gubernatorial candidate pledges pledge himself to continue reclaiming lands by irrigation projects A republican rilly was as held heid in the star pavilion on Satu idly night and it may be said to be the opening of the political campaign campi ign in richfield ieli as this ws was w AS s the first rally to be held hel dhere here the speakers were hon william spry gubernatorial candid candidate can didAt ite e and william hoyell IIo viell present congress nun and candidate cand for reelection election re david hittson of ogden the candidate for state treasurer was nas with them and all three gentlemen spoke to the oters owing to the fact hat there was an exceedingly cleer company holding the boards at the opera house the attendance was vias not so great di as it otherwise would have licen been howe however er there was a good audience and them the were vere interested in ahat was said neither of the speakers are what might be termed orators or spellbind ers but both made good sensible addresses free from abuse of the opposing candidates and only ref referring to the opposite political party by way anay of contrasting policies the richfield band was out and did yeoman service vice I 1 in drawing the crowd it paraded the streets discoursing patriotic and drawing atten tion to the big meeting at the star the meeting opened with a tenor solo by a young man tra velling with the party but the fact that he sang without an accompanist did not add anything to his otherwise good singing mr spry was introduced by N C Pou lien who was chairman of the meeting the gentleman made a good plain statement of the needs of the state as he understood them and among other things he pledged himself to continue the work mork of canals and reservoir projects he spoke of the splendid school system of the state and pledged his best endeavors for state aid in the establishment and maintenance of high schools for cvar var town in the state where the popai tion ads ds large enough to demand a high school lie he showed familiarity with tle the needs of the state and while he is not the kind of speaker to arouse enthusiasm he made a goj g oj impression mr Al mattson attson followed but h his Is r re ej a marks were made in an almost inaudible tone and he merely referred to some borne of the candidates on the state ticket Cong congressman howell made a refer ance to dan Harring tons speech at the state convention where he referred to the congressman as a sphinx and a clam he eaid that he had bad been warned not to prolong his speech so that he was gradually getting to the belief that he was getting out of the sphinx class he then launched into a discussion of the work of the present conn conri gressional delegation and the things they had accomplished for utah ile he handed byran a few hot jolts tind and praised taft for his states manship and for his intention to follow the roosevelt Hoo sevelt policies mr call and his sister miss call sang a luett duett during the evening and miss cochlan played several mandolin selections all of which were appreciated precia ted chere were vere no wild 6 1 id bursts burst of enthusiasm over the re marks of the speakers bp eakers but there was close attention given them tem in t their heir re maiks while bullits fit aln N david parker of fayette N Y a 11 veteran of the civil war who lost a foot at gettysburg sa sar the good electric bitters have done is worth more than five hundred dollars to roe me I 1 spent much money doctoring for a bad case cae of stomach trouble to little purpose pur ce I 1 then tried electric bitters and they cured me I 1 now take them as a tonic and they keep me strong and well at nells neils drug store |
