Show successful COUNTY FAIR fine exhibits in all departments part ments ball games gales and other sports big drawing card list of awards the second annual fair for this county closed in a blaze of glory on saturday evening after a successful days run and there is much for which the committees in charge of the arrangements are to be commended in writ ris nj of the fair it is impossible to refrain from comparison with ohp first annual fair of last year last year the matter was experimental and the results vere far in advance of expeditions although several of the committee members were out cah as well as their time in promoting the enterprise the one thing mostly needed was nab an assurance that a fair could be held in this counte would pay its way and advertise the resource 3 of the county his is what the fair of 1907 did and it was with an assurance as urance of success tatt the men who engineered the fair this year undertook the work vork the executive committee A K hansen 0 P washburn parley magleby and J M parry were the right men in the right place and there labors in their capacity as the executive committee brought results there was a feeling that the fair would be a frost and this caused many to hesitate about assisting the enterprise from some of the towns came reports of antagonism that threatened to disrupt the whole scheme rut but in spite of adverse reports the committees labored on and last wednesday exhibits began to arrive and by noon thursday there was a splendid list ol of entices the in charge of the I 1 art is 13 deserving of praise for the splendid exhibit worked up mrs J B loring of monroe had ch irge of this department and she proceeded to get reil acil live help in each town and the result was aas one of the most pleasing surprises of the entire fair A building had been created for the art and sciences but so great was the number of exhibits that there was not room enough to display the things to good advantage from salina came the largest number of entries in this department mrs airs C E west was the committee member from that town tonn and she did her well and as a result there was a display of art and relics relic which would delight the heart of a lover of faney fancy work paint ings and drawings monroe elsinore EI glenwood joseph venice seguld and richfield all came in with splendid exhibits in the arts and sciences and lack of space forbids even a hint of the dippl dis iv it haj bad to be seen to be appreciated the building was vas crowded at all times during the three dayi exhibition and while all agreed that there may be bigger diplas of art sciences science and relies it was as the general opinion that there could not possibly be a better ons one in live stock and agi the exhibits were not so numerous as in the first fair but the quality of the exhibits was much in advance of last year this also is true of the poultry exhibit this year there were 29 pens of poultry duck pigeons and turkeys and the grade crade is the best ever seen in richfield even including the poultry fair of a few years ago henry borg had bad charge of this department part ment and he is a lover of good poultry in his opinion the exhibit this jear was thi the best ever attempted here there was one feature of the argi cultural and horticultural exhibit which was most reprehensible some of the people persisted in stealing fruit and vegetables from the display names of p esons were handed banded to the reaper and if published would create a sensation as to the class clash of indi on fourth page successful COUNTY FAIR continued from torn first page visuals who indulged in this sort of vandalism one exhibitor from salina sent in a box of peaches and these were all stolen during the first afternoon of the fair another gentleman from glenwood lost nearly twenty five pounds of grapes his entire exhibit of fruit anis another exhibitor who had some borne fine tomatoes on exhibition lost his best samples samp lob and the pecolar pe cular thing of it was thit th it the men and women who stooped to such work are perfect able to buy aej anything thing they want in that line some of them could have hae purchased the entire exhibit it if they them were so minded the fair officials were highly incensed over this feature and next year the exhibits will wi be placid out of the reach of sue such persons the program of sports was the biggest drawing card of the fair th arrangements of the ball earnes was a winning card balina boys nv off with the prize and they were worthy of it too on thursday after noon the richfield and salina salim teams crossed bits and silina salina g give i e the horne home team the finest drub drubbing bino it has received in years there was a time in the middle of the gime ime in hen it looked as asit if richfield v would w win in but a batting rally of the bas from saltville Salt ville smashed Eraa shed the hopes of the home teim and the went down donn to defeat with a score of 9 to 6 them it was a a well earned victor victory for the salina salim team and great was as the rejoicing among the bos and their friend the salina pitcher bert jensen showed wonderful speed peed and puzzling curves and ii ic was vi as with difficult the home boys boy found the ball the other placers on the salina team all placed their positions in good shape the home team did practically no tice work ana chev earned their defeat with a little work ork for the home tean a game between the two teams would be worth seeing one of the vegetable rege table features of the game was the wrangling that occurred between the teams the um pire first selected was a surveyor from salt lake and the richfield team objected to him about the middle of the game another umpire obron germasen Her masen of elsinore was cho chosen en richfield fiela bit the result was the same richfield Rich fielo was beaten on fridae fndia the monroe and elsinore boa bivs a played the game was about a stando fl for a time but the monroe team finally won out by a score of this was vas not a very exciting game and there were no rhe nominal plays made both teams showed ability but the were cirra erratic tic with proper handling either team could make a creditable showing on the diamond saturdays game drew the largest crowd of the season every avail able inch of space on the grandsard grand tard was taken and spectators lined the east and south a des de of the grounds salina and monroe were anere lr ir evidence and it was expected there would be a battle royal fron from the opening innings it was apparent that the game gam was salinas Si linas at no stage did the monroe boys have a lookin look in the score was a di appointment in ings after innings the monroe bols were bowled over without a sign of a tally and all the while the ladi lada from Salti vIle piled up a score which amounted to 18 runs when the gime game closed with four placed to the monroe boys credit the gamp game only gave gae a chance chalice for excitement on three or four occasions and three times did the salina team pull off a double play which sent the he monroe team to the field the rejoicing in the camp of the boys from the north end was great but they held their heads and conducted themselves like genth gentlemen men bert shepard umpired both games and his decisions were satisfactory to all concerned his announcements were made so that all child heir hear which was a commendable part of the games the horse burse races and aid foot races were also int interesting breting events the
