Show POLITICS AND THINGS slate said to be prepared for convention republican candidates for state officers descend and duell dell here a few hours richfield Rich fiell I 1 has been fairly ali alac c with poli polities and the past indek cek first came the republican central committee meeting with its representatives senta tives from the different precincts in the county and from the meeting of these stalwarts stal warts hane hae come tones stones s of slates and plans for capturing the county offices it is 13 hird to see lust v here the politician can secure support if lie he ell chims ims kich field as his homp home town As most of the tha present officers debare another at the counte count offices it is nce cessare to place home borne of them mother towns of the bounty so it comes about that parley magleby claims claim s monroe manros as his home although it is we well 11 known that he has his inte interest resta here A nice ittle stor is gong going the rounds which might be entitled get office honest 13 1 if possible but get it or hw h w tu to fool the convention at elsinore it is said that a little scheme will hill be put through whereby mr magleby will be nominated by the monroe delegates and supported by richfield P D jensen his renounced all effort for the clerkship and will be named by monroe for his present position with the support of richfield nn abelli will support these two to gentlemen with the understanding that monroe and richfield will aid in re turning sheriff abbott to his present position and ri afield will be allowed to name the treasurer recorder attorney and a commissioner this arrangement will gc richfield five out of the eleven offices it will bo be contended that the clerk comes from monro but lug his ollye there I 1 isi for elective purposes cs only of course elmore is left out in the cold old and ill the sin ill prec precincts ints but that will not cut any ice if the slate goes through there are arc several beneral objections being urged against the apropo proposed ed slate chief among them beina that WO two terms is ill III thit an any offlie officer er no matter how should sheild eject some of the faithful say that it looks too much III e crediting the republican party with only han ha ins m one set of men in ohp parts part capable of the duties of the offices some of the rank and file are foolish enough to point to the illustrious ou roo as a shining example against a I 1 third term it is said to be 1 13 tact ct that some ome of the politicians of richfield monroe and anai 1 hive entered a combine to control the d distribution trib ution of nominations in the elsinore Elsi noie convention and the most important office on the ticket will be sloughed for docil advantage in more remunerative offices 1 now salim has to be heard from in that convention and it is an open secret that ane north end of the county will demand a commissioner and the superintendent of schools the boys down there haic bac blood in their eye and they may have a little slate of their own oin to put through george stevens the tha utterances of the salina call in announcing him as a candidate cindi date for commissioner he HB sayi that the party has honored him to the fullest extent and he now ready to help elect some other deser deserving wrig man to office he is in no sense a candidate for further than that mr stevens is opposed to perpetual candidates and for himself he syi im not a hoe bog I 1 know when my party has done I 1 enough for me that attitude will win more friends for him than can possibly be u mon on for men who ask and desire continuation in office ly IY that wa one af the big kicks against old time policies in utah that men once in office were retain d there Cun tinned on eighth page paga POLITICS AND THINGS continued from first page indefinitely third term aspirants will bill h hae aa a hard row roi to hoe as that E aisi sie nore resolution will surely be sprung in 1 I the convention and there are arc many in the republican ranks who believe with nith roosevelt that twice honored is sufficient it is quietly whispered that the clique that is trying to control the convention has decided against a second term for S G dark clark or a third term for mrs cowley and it is pointed out that these exo two officials have given gien the public service which will be hard to dup duplicate just why these two officials have been selected for the slaughter does not appear on the surface but it WI will 11 probably be used to placate those who advocate no third term for anyone mr dark clark has been in the treasurers treasur ers office two years and has made a most efficient officer ipa his records are specimens of careful a and nd judicious work ork what puzzles the average member of the party is why he should be sacrificed and others retained there is a reason which neel nee I 1 not take she t an one long to fathom mr dark clark does not belong to the c lique clique so with mrs cowley these are the things which party members are saying and the reaper gives them as they are rumored without affirming or ing richfield wis nas honored this week by three aspirants for position on the republican state ticket william spry congressman how hov ell and parley christensen all visited this city and incidentally the surrounding sur towns mr christensen was nas approached by a reporter and asked what other matter aside from a case in court brought him to sevier county he laughed and said well nothing in particular ti but you may sai sa that I 1 am not dodging any republicans while here I 1 am an active candidate for the nomination of congressman on the republican ticket and as I 1 had support from this county in the last convention I 1 see no good reason why I 1 should not hane hae the same support I 1 have many friends herf here who enough to express a desire to see bee me nominated and I 1 am making the best fight for the place that I 1 can mr christensen certainly stands high among the people here ile he is young and has plenty of energy and ability to make a good congressman but will he land the plum tia doubtful spry and howell made a hurried inspection of their fences in the few hours they devoted to rich field and vicinity monroe and elsinore were visited the genial postmaster of this city acting as guide and pilot seeing to it that the proper persons persona were met As a result the gentlemen are sanguine of a delegation from this county to the state convention which will endorse spry and howell both gentlemen were a little curious to see the editor of the reaper as they had read some of the utterances anent the federal bunch and jhc thc taci assured the editor that they will gladly welcome him to zion to meet the entire bunch and also assured him that they were not half so EO black as painted asked as ab to the prospects for a favorable delegation from this county and also as to lo the prospects tor for mr howell said tint that he never felt more sanguine neof of the results of the convention and his only effort was to make his majority as near unanimous as possible ile he feels sure of this countes coun tys delegation he also said that in view of the greit great canal and projects which he averred were due to the republic in party the people of this county shou should I 1 d give a unanimous vote fo the party the scribe tor lords sake how much more unanimous m us would uld you wint it in this county than it ins been in the past if brjan br in should be elected alic democrats s will hackard ha have clard lard work nork finding eng enough I 1 members robers of the party to fill the appointive kentne p poin tive offices this silene silenced cd the congressman mr spry sarv is a good deal better in appearance than his political politic opponents have hae pictured him and if appearances count for any thing he N make a pretty good governor if elected sevier county state delegation will be badly mixed if there is any in the reports from different precincts and neither of the visiting aspirants has any cinch on the vote etc from here speaking of Goer governor nor cutler toone to one of the Liti citizens zens hero here mr howell acknowledged kno ledged that the governor had g given en the h e people a good administration to 1 but he added it is far from satisfactory to the just why im in favor of him retorted the citizen rhu rhe democrat of the county are looking for timber for the legislative offices and there is a strong sentiment being developed for joseph johnson a brother to tn senator willis Johns John cn as the candidate for the senate there is no better man for that office in the party and his level headed business methods will likely land the nomination for him the attitude of the reaper must not be misunderstood in the polities politic of this county there is an idea ex e presided in certain quarters that this p piper cpr is conducting a fight against certain county ohner oh offic erb the reaper will say that all the present prent officers of the county are arc capable and conscientious ent ious but we e liae have this to say and urge that all expenditures of county money should be given gien to the business institutions of the county that is the only kick hick the his has is not a man in office for whom we ue have anything but the feelings but there is a principle involved in the advocacy of which we ve think we e are right |
