Show POLITICAL ACTIVITY warming up in state and county many want office resolution dug up which will mitigate against third term candidates A short time since it was vas the real ers privilege to announce the candidacy dicy of john C cutler for tion for his present office olliee at the hands of the republican pirty in this wis Aas hilled hailed with delight by the friends friend of the governor who bellee that one good term deserves and they are of the opinion that mr air autler has made good in the office now non comes the announcement thit that he has withdrawn from the gubernatorial race in favor of one walli tin im spry whose chief claim for recognition is 13 that he ione of the heads of v what hat is known in utah politics as the federal bunch mr air cutler sias s os that mr spry was one of the chiefs in getting him nominated four years ago and that he be will help put spry in the saddle in return for former good offices this gives the governors friends a pain to ba haie e him lay down this early in the game the field has been entered by swen 0 nielsen of fairview fair view who he has announced hi his s candidacy for the office and he has written to several friends here in ri richfield ahfield for support nielsen has good qualifications no doubt but writing political letters is not one of them he should employ a secretary who can manipulate a typewriter type writer rater as is chirography of the nielsen brand will give him a black eye in the minds of men not otherwise intimate with him geographically he hails from near the center of th state and that will be urged as a reason for his nomination salt lake can scarcely ernect to capture all the big plums but there are a number of men hailing from that milage who are out for places on the state ticket major alaor breeden was here not long since ostensibly to rile file a case against a reservoir company but while here he took occasion to try and pull a few fen poles from the political fences of judge mccarty i which aich was as a bad stroke of policy for the major as this county can be pretty well de depend eJ upon to go solidly for W A 11 mccarty the major is not re girded here as weighing many tons in legal matters and he is outclassed by the doughty incumbent of the chief justices chair and myton are up for secretary of state and this with two candidates for attorney general C S patterson Pat lerson and A R barnes and J parley whyte for treasurer shows that zion is going after all there is to offer in the political line the candidate for congress mut not be forgotten the pr arsent present sent incumbent seeks to succeed himself and P P christensen wants nants the job while the irrepressible bill glassman of ogden will nill surely bob up serenely even though the weber delegates as of ore will yell save ns is oh sae sac ui from bill continued on eighth page POLITICAL POLITIC AL ACTIVITY continued from first page altogether it is a merry with ith salt lake in the lead for all the plums in state offices the democrats are not doing much and only candidates for the gubernatorial nomination ale aie mentioned thase se are H H L R martineau T N taylor and wm win roylance and mayor bransford of salt lake ike city neither of these gentlemen are losing any sleep over the nomination but all are me mentioned locally there i macli s uneasiness in the political situation there are a number of a aa owed candidates and there is an undercurrent of political sentiment which is sought to be directed into channels favorable to certain aspirants pi rants the position of re represents presen td tie ti e is regarded as the highest in the gift of the county voters the name of J M peterson has been advanced by his friends and it is 13 received most favorably it is conceded that mr peterson Peter sun has the brains and the ability and the personality to make a representative that will reflect credit on the counte not alA always ays has the representative been a apan that had bad the ability to look after the interests of the county and legislative acumen enough to see an advantage for the county and take it mr air peterson is the best name suggested bug in many moons the present incumbent bishop martin jensen of redmond has not officially announced his eandi candidacy acy a although a correspondent to the salma salina call did that for him there should not be much mih of angat for position in this race as mr peterson should receive the hearty support of a majority of the citizens of this county and as there is little in the office in the vay v ay of financial remuneration there will be little scramble for the place it is 13 for the other county offices that the f fight igat will wax the past week has seen activity to to get into the race for position A number of the present incumbents of county offices hae announced their intention of being candidates before the convention there is a decided sentiment against third term candidates A resolution has been dug up which is said to have been passed by the republican contention conen tion at elsinore in 1698 in which is alleged to have placed itself on record as opposed to third term candidates and thi this a will be used in the county convention this fall whether the party will ba b the action of a former convention or not is questionable but in the mean time there is 13 uneasiness in the matter by candidates for eions on for county clerk george C christensen of redmond is being put forward and all the possible qualifications for the office is being accorded him lie he is a young min man of ability and the north end of the county is said to be solid for him his friends say that he will make an ideal official and they are determined to work for him until the convention accepts him he is not the only one in m the race as P D jensen is also mentioned for the position mr jensen is 13 the county superintendent of schools and so BO well has he performed the duties of that office that his friends are going to ask for a position which will give him a larger field for his activities as a public officer the present incumbent mr air migle by has not announced his candidacy but he be has friends who desire to see him continued continua d in office in spite of any old resolution which a former convention may have passed for the office of 0 county leco ider mrs minnie bean his declared ired her intention of entering the race she ills chis ability and can attend to the duties of the office her frienda say that she is 13 entitled to consideration and will exert every effort to have the conNen contention tion accept her as the candidate M T mrs the present recorder record cr has served two terms and has made an excellent record her work nork will bear the closest scrutiny and she is thoroughly acquainted with the duties of the office she has friends who are arc going to baand loyally by her and try to land the nomination always providing that the third term resolution is sidetracked the office of sheriff has several aspirants but the men chiefly mentioned are mr abbott and john moore the present sheriff has made a good record for himself and the duties of the office are such that an experienced man is always preferable to an inexperienced perien ced one however the friends of mr air moore say that their candidate is able to take up the burdens of the office and perform the duties in a manner that will be creditable to the county the resolution as to third term candidates will be urged against mr air abbott and the chances are that this resolution will cut a lot of leefor assessor there seems to be no opposition to the present official and as this is his first term the resolution of the former convention can not be brought to bear on him he has in made adean an excellent officer and an effort will be made to return him to office for bior treasurer S G dark clark seems to hold first place although there is some talk of joseph poulsen for the position here the thud term resolution is ineffective as mr dark clark his served but one term and has conducted the office in a hobt manner mr poulsen has qualifications which his friends will urge and they will endeavor to get the nominating cor bention to endorse him for county attorney john jorgensen is possibly the only candidate will be presented although the friends of nephi bates are anilou to land him in the court house mr jorgensen has made a splendid record in his office and cases have received his prompt attention and the interests of the leonle have been his first consideration era tion here again the third term resolution can not prevail as this is a mr jirgensons Jorgen sons first term and he be has the qualifications of a good official in the race for the commissioner Morten Jensen announces hiscano his cand candidacy dacy to succeed himself in fact his is the only name mentioned at this time mr jensen has filled the office with fidelity and has been a factor in every matter that has come before the corn com missioners ners ile he has good business gumption and that should recommend him to the voters As this is his first term as commissioner the third term resolution cannot be used against him he has many friends to work for his nomination the democrats of the county are not making any noise asto as to candidates there are no aspirants in the field at present the democrats are not in a position to make a long fight and it is a the intention to delay all conventions until after the state ticket is made up As soon as thit that is accomplished the judicial and senatorial conventions will be held and candidates named for the places there is only one candidate men tinned so far for any position and that 18 henry N hayes for judge of this judicial district lit ile has not announced his candidacy in tact fact he is very loth to enter the field as his other interests demand his entire attention but his qualifications for the position are such that hib bib democratic friend will not listen to any reason for him not making the race and nothing short of death or disaster will prevent the from naming him for the office buico of district judge in county matters there is nothing doing among the democrats at present although a healthy campaign is promised by home bome of the younger men ol 01 the parti part since the denver convention there ib a good deal of courage noticeable in the ranks |
