Show SELECTED AND STATE LAND S H N hayes gives information answers inquiries as to methods method of securing unoccupied lands under proposed Pio posed canal richfield reaper in ans cr to the man inquiries being made as to how and v hen and upon what terms the state will ill dispose of its lands located under the proposed new canal permit me to make the fol following loing statement through bour our codur columns nils the lands at the disposal dispo sil of the state land board are arc divided into two clae cla cl aei e selected lands and state lands the selected landa land are those which chich individuals hane hae chosen and have made application direct to the state to purchase and upon such individual applications the state selected said lands for the individual out of one of the government grants to the state stale A year ago list february on account of the states grants at that time being almost exhausted the state land board discontinued accepting applications for selected lands and it does not at the time receive any such applications though in all probability it will do so in the ne near 3 r future for the reason that the interior department has recently ruled that the state may take lieu lands in lieu of the school sections within the government forest reserves a there are about 4 1 acres of such school lands for which lieu lands will be available to be purchased as selected lands when the board resumes sale of the same the state lands consist of the school sections lands heretofore se lecter as university lands sel selected eced lands that have been forfeited to the sats b ll 11 L i a lailure A OT 0 tu to keep up payments upon thebe tame ame and all other lands that are selected by the bbate land board for the use usa and benefit of the state before state lands can be sold upon the application of a private individual they must under the law lava be first appraised and offered at public auction hence all of the lands thit that have been selected by the state under the proposed new ne canal together with all sele cl eted ted lands land thit that have reverted to the state must be appraised and offered for sale at public auction before they can be sold upon the application of a private individual practically all the lands belonging to the state under the proposed canal ami are and state landd and hence must be offered for sile sale at public auction before they can be sold upon private applications and in all probability the small amount of state land under the slid said canil canal that his already been appraised and offered will mill be re appraised and offered for sale at public auction at the time the other state lands are of feied as aforesaid in view of the law and the facts as above stated and with a desire to give all an il chance to purchase said lind land applications from private individuals md Ivi duals will mill not be received to purchase any of said lands until after they have been offered at public sile sale before such sile sale takes place due notice thereof will be given and the lands together with the water there for will be ba sold on ten ears time with a down pigment of one tenth to bo be mide made it the time of purchase it is not known at present just at what time the said lands will be offered for sale but in all probability such sale will not tike take place until the lat at ter pirt of this bear car 01 01 the early part of 1909 respectfully su submitted b bitted H N HAYES |
