Show cash to take place of relief orders the placing of all relief administered Is by the utah state department of public welfare on a strictly cash basis and the elimination of emergency orders for food clothing and other necessities was authorized by the state welfare board at a meeting tuesday in the capitol relief clients who have heretofore been receiving emergency orders will receive cash allowances which they can spend wherever they desire the orders were good only at certain designed places where people are eligible for relief said J W gillman director of the department they will be placed on the regular payroll but will receive no more orders for food or merchandise if they are not eligible for relief they will be cut from the rolls mr gillman explained that the emergency order system was cumbersome and involved a good deal of red tape its elimination will save the department considerable overhead and it will wil 1 be more satisfactory to the vendors he said last month about in in emergency orders were authorized and issued to relief clients by the county welfare departments the board dire directed Eted mr gillman to seek from the attorney generals office an implication am of a recent opinion boldi holding fig that under the law the office of chief of old age assistance must be separate from that of director of the department part ment both bota of these offices are now held by mr gillman the board want to know if in the opinion of the attorney genral general e it is necessary to set up a separate division for old age assistance si when the opinion is received the social security board at washington will be asked if the suggested setup set up meets with its approval the salt lake tribune |
