Show institute program Is inspirational lisp teachers challenged to create zest for learning and appreciation teachers and school patrons from all parts of the sevier district crowded the sevier stake tabernacle to hear an inspirational program at the teachers institute held there sunday evening under direction of superintendent A J ashman and elizabeth primary supervisor explaining the innovation of holding the institute on sunday superintendent ashman that he felt it could be an advantage to start the school year with the spirit of sunday a spirit of spirituality that might be translated in teaching high ideals and democracy he had found it so he said at the education association sessions which open always with a sunday evening session the musical program of the evening was extended and grouped while the audience awaited the arrival of the visiting speaker dr adam S bennion who was delayed by car trouble and an unfamiliar road from southern utah by wy way of escalante in humorous vein mr air ashman spoke briefly to kill time as he put it and also gave some information on the introduction tro of a student course in study of effects of the use of alcohol cobol and narcotics the course is is to be I 1 introduced ii trod under legisla etive act though details of presentation are left with the school districts following a booklet released by the state board of public instruction st spiced with humorous stories dr bennion gave a short add address ess in which he left three challenges for teachers first a challenge to inspire ire students with a zest for learning second a challenge to lead students into an appreciation of what this utah has been built by and an appreciation of the character of the pioneers third a challenge to parents and teachers to accept the heritage from those who have gone on before and pass it on to the new generation inspiring them with a love of this country and its democratic ideals an appeal to teach and live democracy was given by both superintendent ashman and dr bennion the musical program was representative senta tive of some of the best talent in the district it included selections by the richfield high school girls chorus violin duets by mr and mrs briant jacobs a trombone solo by bert basemen of the south sevier high school selections by a ladies double trio from the north sevier high school and organ solos by carvel mattsson I 1 the invocation for the services was by principal C A white of monroe and the benediction by dr T R gledhill Gle dhUl |
