Show civic clubs entertained V at beaver governor blood pledges aid on reservoirs praises redmond residents governor henry H blood saturday afternoon assured directors and members of the associated civic clubs of southern utah in session at beaver the full cooperation of his office and that of the state engineer in obtaining anfor mation with which to promote construction of small reservoirs in the state to conserve waters now running down the colorado river As the principal speaker of the afternoon governor blood outlined operation of the boulder dam act and the attempts to change it by the lower basin states and the reasons for the objections by the upper basin states he also told of the possibilities in upper basin states to conserve the water now going to waste as far as utah is concerned down the colorado river having come from redmond where he took part in the celebration t of sevier county people holding a bonfire of worth of bonds that have been paid off the governor briefly reviewed the progress of utah people he highly highl y complimented the people of redmond for having satisfied a debt that has hung over them for many years and compared this with the record of the state A resolution prepared by the frice ance chamber of commerce which called for an investigation of members of the legislature and an unnamed state department was presented to the meeting but no action was taken because of its possible connection with politics the associated civic clubs have continually maintained that they do not enter political controversies or take action on political questions following Fol loving a report on road projects in which the organization is interested given by F G martines of richfield in the absence of L A of milford chairman of the road ad committee the utah state road commission was criticized criticised for assert edly not having fulfilled its promises to construct certain roads roada E P of torrey told of road conditions in wayne county that need correcting but on which action has haa not been obtained A bill now pending in congress calling for the forest service to be abolished and a similar bureau set up in the department of interior was discussed the directors voted to turn the matter to the executive and legislative committees for action sponsored by the beaver chamber of commerce the business meeting convened in the high school auditorium at p m after the executive committee had bad met at noon following the general session a banquet was held in the high school banquet room and a dance concluded the days pro grom on sunday the visitors inspected the new creamery and powdered milk plant and the state fish I 1 and game hatchery after that they went up beaver canyon to puffer lake kents lake and otter lake sevier county people at tending attending included ud e d mr air and mrs ray E carr can mr and mrs airs frank G martines mr and mrs bill mr and mrs june powell mr and mrs chariton and daughter may and H B waters |
