Show MUM eu CLUBS MEET at CITY cooperative and legislative plans aired arizona tour planned in an attempt to promote better understanding of the th a other persons problems and conditions the associated civic clubs of southern utah and junketing utah legislators in a joint meeting monday at cedar city decided to sponsor meetings of groups representing labor agriculture industry mining and other factions at which the various problems will be discussed the me cedar city chamber of commerce was host to the civic group the executive committee convened at noon ngon with the open meeting and a banquet and dance in the evening due to td the unusual number of visitors to the little bustness business was transacted trafis acta d during the afternoon ter noon it beings left for the attention antion of the exi executive committee included among the speakers were paul paid H hunt representing the american mining con congress grese who told of the effect of a lack of employment on the economic and social conditions in utah senator ward C holbrook who was recently elected president of the utah state farm bureau representative D A tidwell secretary of state E E monson representing governor henry H blood game commissioner newell B cook and others senator holbrook invited other interests to talk things over with the farming interests when he asserted INV we e t talk alk a about bo ut each other too much but not enough to each other 11 the plan decided upon for promoting a better understanding bey bea tween various factions and garoupa calls for meetings at which problems and possible solutions win will be discussed in a friendly manner recently the association has sponsored several such meetings as an experiment peri ment with considerable success cess the plan has the approval of the mining congress sportsmens Sports mens associations livestock people the farm bureau the utah manufacturing association and several other groups A resolution was adopted asking the legislature to take immediate action on the bills already presented which concern the plute reservoir and irrigation company the central utah canal company and the carbon irrigation company these companies have been in distress for many years because of insufficient water and heavy obligations to the state the directors also voted to request the forest service and taylor grazing act officials to cancel grazing fees for 1937 in areas affected by the severe winter in most of southern utah the livestock men have suffered serious losses of stock and the lamb crops this spring will be an estimated 50 pei percent below normal in addition to action on these projects and others a definite decision was reached to erect large sign boards advertising the state at strate strategic oc points near borders the first of the boards will be be placed at las vegas nevada and will vill be 42 feet long by 12 feet high it will picture a scenic attraction in the southern part of the state and an invitation to visit all of southern utah A goodwill good will tour is planned to flagstaff ariz on april 8 3 and the same party may go on to las laa vega vegas on the e return trip C W L love jr f president dent presided at the meetings in attendance at the meeting from richfield were mr and mrs ray E carr and mr and mrs F G martine farlines Mar lines 5 |
