Show SOIL IS SE fona western region director explains program as outlined for 1937 every farmer who participates in the 1937 agricultural CO conservation r program will have for his farm a soil building allowance which may be considered as a sort of expense fund according to george E farrell director of the AAA AA A for the western region the soil building allowance limits the amount of money which a farmer may earn by employing PI OVing approved soil building practices this l nis is because every farmer will know before he begins his farming fanning operations this year approximately how big the fund or son soil building allowance will be for his farm mr farrell says he will know that he cn can earn cam or draw up P to as much as this allowance allo and he will also know that he can not draw upon this account unless he actually performs certain son soil building practices the 1 amount of the soil building allowance depends upon the size and type of the individual farm the allowance will be set up for each farm out of the funds available ava for the national program sir mr farrell says practice payments may be earned from the soil building allowance by planting soil consert ing crops such as crested wheat grass and alfalfa or by any of a number of such practices practice as strip cropping terracing and contour listing they are in addition to the diversion payments which will average 6 an acre for the country as a whole soil building allowan allowances zes this year will be larger than last year for most farms the rhe son soil building allowance for diversion farms all farms except small farms with less than 20 acres in the soil depleting base or which are classed as non diversion farms for other reasons win will be figured by adding up as many of the following items as apply to the farm 1 I 1 an acre for each acre in soil conserving crops on the farm this year up to the total acres I 1 in F the son soil conserving base this base is the total number of acres in cropland less the son soll depleting base and any orchard and vineyard acreage 4 an acre adjusted to the productivity of the land for acreage diverted for payment orchard allowance of 80 cents an acre adjusted to productivity for the acreage in orchards vineyards nut trees and bush fruits flat blat orchard allowance of 1 an acre acre for land in orchards vineyards nut trees and bush fruits and 1 an acre for land in commercial vegetables if single eingle crop ped in 1936 and 52 2 an acre of double cropped in 1936 Ta pasture sture allowance of 50 cents for each animal unit over 5 which the non crop pasture land on the farm will carry during the normal pasture season on the smaller non diversion farms the son oi budding allowance will be figured by adding up as many of the following 1 items as apply appl V 80 cents an acre adjusted to productivity for the total acreage in cropland A flat orchard rate of 1 an acre for land in orchards vineyards nut trees bush fruits and 1 an acre for land in commercial vegetables 2 an acre for land in commercial vegetables if double cropped in 1936 pasture allowance of 50 cents for each animal unit over 5 which the non emp crop pasture land on the farm will carry during the normal pasture season |
