Show ON THE I 1 mm PARK P A 11 K plot Plo tWill will beautify east entrance to richfield cemetery work is progressing on the veterans memorial park near the east entrance to the richfield cit city y cemetery and it is expected that the work will he be completed by memorial day development of the park is sponsored by the american legion in cooperation with richfield city the foundation of the speakers stand is already built graveled walks have been made and the ground in the plot which is about LOO feet square has been prepared for planting of lawn and flowers trees and shrubs have already been planted the space east of the small park will be cleared for parking of cars A star shaped flower bed has been prepared as a center of one part of the lawn and will be planted with red white and blue poppies seed for which were brought from flanders field last year by miss eileen blomquist this work is in charge of the legion auxiliary members who have also ed with the planting of shrubs the task of laying out and clearing the vacant lot for the park was started last october but as it was late in the year other work had to be deferred until this spring the project was introduced when the legion charged its service committee with devising ways to construct a speakers stand at the cemetery and prepare an appropriate place for holding memorial day services there true E robins was appointed chairman of this committee which conferred with mayor W L warner wamer and city councilmen the city granted use of the plot mentioned and the city is also furnishing material for the stand under which is built buil t a place for storing tools used in in care of the cemetery all work Is being done without charge by the legion members it is being supervised by W D core whom the legion selected last as f fall as chairman of construction |
