| Show FORWARD THE CAUSE OF MENTAL HYGIENE that sevier county citizens are among the progressive groups awakening to the need of giving consideration to what is generally generall y termed mental hygiene was well evidenced by the large attendance at a meeting here last week at which a lecture on mental hygiene c was given the opportunity to help thi the unfortunate into channels of worthwhile endeavor and at the same time to protect the public from increased loss because of delinquency is made more clear as the years progress statistics show that the largest age group in penal institutions is the group of youths from 19 to 23 back of each case there is some reason it is the purpose of mental hygiene societies to check delinquency by reading the signposts so to speak anda and by guiding the individual into channels into which worthwhile progress may be made if that individual is of the subnormal type to aid in placing him in surround ings where he can achieve most with his mental capacity to correct physical ills which might con tribute to mental disorder and fin ally with a program sympathetic and humane in practice to prevent the transfer of defects to future generations dr ramsay in his lecture here painted an inspirational picture of schools which in the future will have bave large departments for man ual training in which many children I 1 now cram cramped ped into a fixed program of studies beyond their mental capacity to grasp will find an outlet for energy in something they are capable of doing well sevier county citizens will look forward to the early organization of a mental hygiene society here |
