Show GROW THROUGH SCHOOL A serious criticism of formal education has been the lack of a concerted plan to bring school think thinking hig on secondary levels close to lifes realities the need for I 1 hsuch such a plan has been accentuated i each year by the growing complexities of modern society during the past few years education has met this need at least in part by the introduction of student participation in school problems the interpretation of which in all their implications involves many serious life situations based on the well known principle that the most effective learning results from motivated activities this plan of modern modem education opens the way for our borsand boys and girls to think for themselves and to take par part in solving their own problems so I 1 much to be desired in any system of education the journal of the national education I 1 association has been the foremost pioneer for student participation and today there are three national organizations car crying forward the practical phases of the movement they are the national association of student editors the national association of student government officers and the student graphic art society A marked tendency toward bringing schools of the sevier district in line with this progressive movement has been evident in recent years with the adoption of unit systems of study class organization and recreation which give more students opportunity for r ac c tive participation the ten dent of the district gave a con cise statement of his c 0 vii ri viv point a bev few years ago when speaking before a group of prin c apals of the district ard encourage ing them to consider the socia welfare of students and to teach them without discouraging them by exaggerated competition he said students should grow through school not just go through school again this week we are arc to see the problem approached from a different angle when parents and teachers will give a panel dl discussion of school problems at a teachers institute to be held here saturday something of the spirit and purpose of the national association of student government officers may be seen from the preamble of the constitution of the association we the student officers in american institutions of learning in order to spread the spirit of responsibility leadership p personal personal growth good citizenship cooperation and self discipline in fredr to foster movements for school and community improvement in 0 order to achieve unity of effort in realizing the ideas of education and democracy and to make abai available lable to student officers throughout america ideas and information to help in achieving these objectives unite in an organization to be known as the national association of student government officers in carrying out these objectives the organization shall be a noncommercial non comme commercial acial nonpartisan non partisan educational organization allied with the national education student association the student graphic arts society is the result of a series of projects carried on since 1928 by the national education association for the encouragement of the graphic arts education movement its primary function is to serve students of the graphic arts one may join the society by chapter membership or by membership at large the national association of student editors was organized a I 1 year ago under the leadership of the national education association with vitalized Vitali zed school journalism as its official organ its influence in this short period has been marked and is far reaching this journal however is super ceded by the student leader a monthly periodical which will serve as the official organ of the three organizations and which was started by the staff of the national education association it is allied with projects of the national education association which emphasize student participation and responsibility among I 1 these are american education week vitalized vitali zed commencements ischook school interpretation community surveys and world good will day |
