Show sheriff fairbanks attends meetings of peace officers sheriff V M fairbanks president of the utah peace officers association attended the annual anti crime conference held by the organization thursday and friday in the house of representatives chamber in the state capitol and also the rocky mountain safety conference which followed the state meetings sheriff fairbanks presided at I 1 the assembly governor henry H blood gave the address of welcome chief of police W L payne of salt lake city was the main speaker at the first session discussing the subject what evidence Is and how to take care of it IL he stressed coordination between officers arresting criminals and prosecuting attorneys crime prevention through a more effective program of social education was advocated by chas H skidmore state superintendent of public instruction in designing such a program the home schools churches and civic organizations izat ions all have their part he said failure of the public to support the traffic laws and back up the enforcement officials was scored by one of the principal speakers of the fourth annual rocky mountain safety conference the conference was sponsored by the utah nevada safety society the utah state safety council the U S mines bureau and the state industrial industrial commission officials from utah nevada wyoming and colorado participated the conference stressed not only greater safety on the highway but safety in the industrial plant and in the mine judge C J dalby of salt lake called attention to a number of cases in which the court was criticized for not enforcing the traffic laws by citizens who when they or their close friends are arrested are the first to ask for leniency he stated that while the courts try to deal justice fairly and without prejudice it becomes somewhat of a problem when a respectable member of the community comes with a plea of lien ency for a traffic vip vig lator |
