| Show CLUBS CLODS PUN salina canyon wayne wonderland and highway 89 among projects A delegation of approximately 20 men and women from sevier county attended the meeting of the associated civic clubs of southern utah held in st george last saturday and sunday among them were F G martines president of the organization and H if asen one of the directors from this county three projects were outlined which will constitute the major projects of the civic clubs this year one will bo be an effort to induce the federal government to set aside the wayne wonderland in wayne county as a national park A second project will seek the improvement of route U 10 between salina and price to TJ S highway standards the third project will be to work for closer relations between the associated civic clubs and the chambers of commerce of salt lake and ogden in an effort to get more tourists routed through southern utah work will alsobr also be continued on hastening the completion of that section of highway 89 between thistle and fairview fair view president martines heads the committee which will work vork to have a wayne national park with H M ray B E carr richfield and roy eckersley loa as aides A committee consisting of dr leo eo kerrill Mem ll salina chairman A 1 D kellar Cast ledale roy barlow junction L A Mil milford mildora fora and president martines was appointed to work temporarily pending the selection of a permanent roads committee on the salina canyon and highway 89 projects at the suggestion of senator jefferson this committee also was instructed i to investigate the proposed see scenic circle route from sant san francisco through reno and ely nevada lehmans caves bryce and zion national parks losvegas Las Vegas nevada los angeles and return to the starting point this plan was to have ave been discussed b by y the governors of the three states at reno during de mcember yc ember but the representative appointed by the utah governor failed to attend the meeting because I 1 of the expected meeting in reno the civic clubs had withheld action at their last meeting because of the rules of the association so requiring all projects to be submitted 30 days before an any y action can be taken many subjects were discussed and will be acted upon later the matter of an all year route between panguitch and cedar city was tabled and an meeting recommended because the counties concerned had I 1 not yet agreed upon a definite route the association will not support any plan on which member counties are arc not in accord airports discussed airports and airmail lines were discussed at length and a committee was appointed to investigate and request establishing of a route from salt lake to kingman arizona at present there is no mail service south from fredonia arizona the committee includes J E garn richfield mr cameron and joseph matson mt pleasant state senator 0 C bowman of kanab reed H gardner former president of the clubs of cedar city and mr cameron were instructed ted to continue their work on the erection of road markers at barstow california flagstaff arizona and andersons Ander sens ranch on highway 91 the milford delegation headed by senator jefferson will investigate the possibility of obtaining farm through the state land lioard board and draw resolutions requesting favorable action to be signed by president martines and sent to the land board funds for the 1934 campaign will be solicited from the counties at the rate of 1 of a mill based on the assessed valuation in the future counties will be asked to include this in their assessments the february meeting was planned for either millard or beaver county delta and fillmore fiumora will be given first choice with beaver and milford second the exact date will be announced by the president election of a traveling secretary executive secretary and treasurer was held over for the february meeting delegations were enthusiastic in their praise of the successful meeting and outlook for the year asserting that the interest never before had bad been on such a high plane resolutions were passed thanking the state and county press for its support |
