Show 0 MOLE DENIAL 1 90 BIBB state bank of sevier committee sends petition to board of pardons thirteen members of the depositors committee of the state bank of sevier signed a letter last week in which the request was made that the board of pardons deny the petition for the parole of alred alfred f J bird who is serving a term in the state penitentiary for having embezzled some of the funds of this bank which act is held responsible for the bank having to close the report was vas made at a meeting of the depositors committee of the state bank of sevier held on june 14 that birds name would be presented to the state board of pardons at their next meeting for parole the letters sent to the various members of this board stated that the depositors committee represented more than half of the deposits of said bank bird was sentenced on january 27 1932 by judge nephi J bates to serve see not less than one nor more than ten years in the state penitentiary at hard work he had pleaded guilty to the charge of embezzlement waived all rights and signed a written confession before witnesses that he assumed all responsibility for the shortage now appearing on the books of the state bank of sevier and admitted that his manipulations covered a period of eight years bird had worked in this bank in a highly trusted capacity for nearly 20 years and had been assistant c cashier a s h I 1 e r for approximately six years an effort was sought once before to get him pardoned but a strong protest from residents of this community which he so grievously v wronged was sufficient to get the petition denied by the board of pardons |
