Show SCHOOLS or SEVI DISTRICT WILL OPEN MONDAY OC T 17 board postpones starting of term until after the beet harvest sevier district schools will open monday october IT 17 according to a decision reached at a meeting of the board of education held in richfield monday of this week two reasons are given for this late opening of the schools making the longest vacation period la in the history of the district one is that it will eliminate the necessity of having to borrow more money an expensive and difficult procedure under present conditions it is expected that enough tax money will be coming in by the time the teachers first checks fall fail due in november the other reason is that if school should begin about the middle of september as it did last year the annual beet vacation which the farmers demand of the board would start about october 1 and would break in on the school term just as it was vas getting well underway the present plan does away with this beet vacation entirely by setting the opening of schools after the boys have finished their work in the beet harvest no decision was reached as to the length of the school term but the board states that they will continue school just as long as it is possible to obtain funds they are doing their best under adverse conditions and the cooperation of the public is earnestly solicited the reaper was authorized to state that in all probability the school term will last at least six months and longer if at all possible at the same meeting contracts for furnishing coal to the various schools were awarded as follows sevier valley milling co of salina the contract for redmond salina aurora sigurd and koosharem Koo Roo sharem bonneville lumber co of richfield for richfield glenwood enwood GI and central joseph robinson of elsinore for elsinore joseph cove and annabella lewis W gardner of venice for venice and james R ware of monroe for monroe the next meeting of the board w will ill be held at 10 a m monday august 22 |
