| Show FULL or OF MOME MOISTURE DURING NOVEMBER IN yea rempei temperature drops to nine below zero when storm stops everybody in general and ranchers in particular are rejoicing over the prospects for a wet winter in sevier valley and in fact all southern utah the precipitation for november of this year to date has broken all records for the past eleven years according to S R boswell official weather recorder here since the storms started on november 9 with a steady rain which was almost all absorbed by the dry and unfrozen ground a total of inches of moisture has fallen up to tuesday november 24 truly this should be a year of genuine thanksgiving the records for the past eleven years for november precipitation are as follows 1920 40 inch 1921 50 1922 none 1923 no record 1924 1925 49 1926 74 1927 50 1928 45 1929 06 06 1930 39 this november the precipitation is 07 inches above the high record of 1924 another favorable condition is the fact that the ground was not frozen when the snow started to fall and as it starts to melt the moisture will gradually soak into the soil so far this storm has brought 6 inches of snow in sevier valley almost all of which still lies on the ground even at st george there was a 4 inch sn snowfall cfall while ahil e the leaves were still on the trees and chrysanthemums were in full bloom it is reported that a foot and a half of snow lies on the hills around bryce canyon and it is thought that there is a similar amount in the hills surrounding this valley the snow was followed by a sudden falling failing of the mercury and the low temperature was recorded monday night with a reading of the official thermometer of 9 degrees below zero this equals the extreme low of last year which occurred about this same time of the year rising temperatures are predicted for the weekend week end the richfield grade schools and junior high were dismissed monday forenoon until the temperature of the buildings could be brought up to a desirable point in the afternoon the cold snap monday night burst bunt some water pipes of the heating plant and it was necessary to again release the junior high and grade students classes were suspended wednesday also for both the high school has held classes without interruption |
