Show 0 0 1 SALINA I 1 1 by special correspondent I 1 0 a 0 graduates give splendid program north sevier bi high bih h school set a new record in the th history of its graduates this year when forty two senious seni ois twenty wenty five of whom hom v were boys received diplomas at the commencement exercises held at 2 Thurs thursday dav afternoon in the second ward vard chapel following the program a reception for the graduates and their parents pai e ants was held in the banquet hall sponsored hy by the ladies literary and civics club and the club r salina chapel dedicated dedicatory exercises for the new second ward meeting house were held sunday two appropriate programs anis iams one at 10 a in for the children the other at 2 p in for the adults were given due to car trouble tio uble president heher heber J grant who vas to be present at the exer exercises cisel duling dining the day was unable to attend the morning pi however I 1 to not disappoint the children lie he con consented anted to speak a time at 6 beaole going goin g to richfield the splendid rendition of anthems by the choir and a vocal duet by J C and hubert jensen were an appropriate addition to the afternoons program the invocation v was offered by president preside nt martin jensen and preceding the address and dedicatory prayer by president heber J grant reports and brief talks wele made by D dr r don C merrill bishop G M burr E C wright and president james A christensen president joseph F peterson pronounced the benediction the ground for the building dedicated sunday was broken and active construction work commane commenced february 10 1928 don carlos young was the architect and the work was supervised by D al anderson the building consists of three units L D S chapel recreation hall and connecting unit measuring feet the chapel has a seating capacity of 3 18 the recreation hall is equipped with a stage having a modern lighting system and scenery a fireplace in the body of the loom moving picture booth and carriage for storing seats un under der the stage this hall ball measuring feet has a seating capacity of besides the two assembly rooms mentioned there is a bishops office a relief society room a baptismal font ten class rooms a fireproof vault a kitchen and a banquet room stake contests held contestants for first place in the north sevier stake M 1 L A contest work met at the second room friday afternoon ter noon of the many who entered miss faunda of the redmond ward won the public speaking contest redmond also won first place in the play contest miss murphy of the sauna salina first ward won first place for the retold re told story the aurora mixed quartet was winner in the singing contest and the salina first ward succeeded in carrying off first honors in the gold and gleen caprice saturday afternoon and evening district contests were held at monroe the winners from there going to richfield monday evening for divisional honors s V i local and personal monday eve evening nini mis leo merrill was delightfully surprised by ten ladies who helped celebrate her birthday anniversary bridge was played airs A S crane mrs airs charles nielson and mrs airs E C wright were the prize winners following bridge luncheon was served on small tables centered with tulips miss stena who left saturday morning for berkeley california where she wi will 11 attend summer school was honor guest when mrs airs C leo lea merrill entertained at a social friday evening at bridge miss stena stana mrs airs J 0 anderson and mrs june webb won first second and cut prizes respectively luncheon was served by the hostess to eight ladies mrs othello sorensen of elsinore has for the past we week ek been a patient at the salina hospital under dr C leo merrills merrill care mr air and mrs E C wright were business visitors at richfield monlay monday afternoon dr R garn dark clark and H R webb both of provo were overnight guests at the home of mr and mrs june webb saturday among those from salina who attended the M 1 I A district contests held at mo monroe aroe saturday evening were misses Amy murphy lavera jensen thressa olby and |
