Show AGAIN TO BE D R G TERMINAL railroad company promises fast train from salt lake city if assured of mail contract this would leave mail route to chanab kanab over highway 89 that the D R G western railroad company if assured of the mail contract for which bids will vill be asked again next june is not only anly to restore the passenger train to fco marysvale Marys vale but will have a fast train leaving salt lake city about six in the morning and arriving in marysvale Marys vale before t velve twelve in order to make it possible that mail for kanab leaving on this fast train can be delivered in kanab the same afternoon was the welcome news made public at a meeting of the kanab lions club held monday evening delegates from lions and commercial clubs alon along tle the federal aid highway no 89 frol from gunnison in the north to orderville derville Or in the south were present at the meeting which had been originally called to boost highway no 89 present at the meeting were H W cherry publisher U b ll 11 of the gunnison valley ITI news W s and the salina sun president A J lewis of the salina lions club J milton olsen president of the richfield lions club V A malmsten president of the richfield commercial club with W L warner wamer ferdinand erickson H T Al martines artines and dr al markus of richfield J W robinson L 0 boone C A shelton and patrick T henry of marys vale fred bruhn dr crandall A G johnson james T daly jr and 0 henrie of panguitch gilbert R beebe and N larsen of junction chas R dalton and V R johnson of circleville Cir cleville al barnhurst Bam hurst of hatch and representative esplin of order ville F M fowler superintendent of schools of the kane district and president of the kanab lions club presided at the meeting representative esplin gave a concise concise report of the tax legislation completed by the special session of the state legislature culminating in the adoption of resolutions submitting to the people at the november elections certain constitutional amendments to make an equalization of tax burdens possible the rest of the evening was spent in discussing the routing of mail to kanab and a conceited effort to boost highway no 89 J W robinson fred bruhn and ferdinand erickson oneie eie the main speakers mr robinson and mr bruhn have just returned ret arned from conferences in salt lala city with high officials of the D R G western railroad company and in ogden with wilford Dari danvers ers superintendent of mail they le ported that the railroad company if assured of receiving the mail contract will run a fast mail train to marysvale Marys vale every morning mol ning in older that the mail to all points south of marysvale Marys Mary vale I 1 including kanab can be delivered ti the ie same afternoon and that mr danvers had said if the la lail road company would run such a train there would be no necessity of routing the kanab mail from cedar city via mt cannel there would however be a route established bringing the mail from the west of cedar city to mt carmel where it then could be picked up by the trucks or busses going to orderville derville Or and kanab in this way the kanab people would have ideal mail connections these reports were received with a great deal of satisfaction and without passing any resolutions the members of the kanab lions club to a man expressed themselves as being boosters boasters bo for highway no 89 part of the discussion following centered around ways and means to properly advertise highway 89 also known as the grand canyon highway A motion finally carried to app appoint a committee with fred bruhn as chairman and dr M K alack daikus us and F M fowler as members this committee to appoint additional members from all civic organizations along the grand canyon highway from mt alt pleasant in the north to annab kanab in the south and to start an advertising i campaign for this highway in c connection with the southern california automobile association which has headquarters in los angeles J W robinson was appointed chain chairman nan of a committee to be selected by him the duty of this committee to be to seek equalization of the gasoline price which at the present time without any justification is three cents higher along the grand canyon highway than along the western route tile the meeting was enthusiastic and harmonious and will undoubtedly bring good results |
