Show A RAILROAD FROM MARYSVALE TO FLAGSTAFF with a feeling of elation we have read of the action of the utah shippers traffic association launching a movement to construct a mile an anu une of railroad from marys vale the NE acres la 15 1 1 thern terminus of the denver deliver 3 grande western railroad through el southern utah and northern Arizo arizona ato to connect with the atchison Ate hison topeka and sante fe railroad at flagstaff A connection like this would be hail j ed cd by the people of southern utah I 1 I 1 the glea greatest test of pleasure and the utah shippers traffic tion can be sure that all of southern utah will give them the most hearty hearte I 1 cooperation and every possible assistance si in promoting this laudable project I 1 tile the report which H W council for the association has submitted and which lioves the feasibility of the project so convincing con convincingly vincin ly that a resolution was adopted to launch the movement is a worthwhile document based on absolute truth and avoiding all exaggeration evage ration in fact many mole moie reasons than those given by mr could be enumerated me rated mr points out that there would be more than enough traffic to justify the mile road and that large tonnage would originate along the line to substantiate this statement he referred to southern utah as an ideal dairy country where carloads of dairy products could be developed by a railroad line he mentioned the possibilities southern utah offers for raising po lettuce and other vegetables j which would result in the production 1 of about four thousand carloads of potatoes alone each year he spoke of the benefit that such a line would be to the movement of livestock ton for the southern california markets of the heavy tourist travel that would be created to the southern utah parks of the convenience of a direct route from utah to ariz arizona new mexico and texas teras te ras of the accas TL ability to lumber from the kaibab tice forest and so on he did not mention in his report the many other resources r louree so uree that are now untapped and unused all over southern utah and that tha would bring prosperity to the now wi undeveloped developed parts of southern dijt utah ah and northern arizona he did not mention our enormous deposits of and non minerals billions of tons of which are only waiting for transportation facilities he did not mention the enormous horsepower that could be developed from our waterways he did not mention the many industries that would spring up along a railroad line of that sort in spite of not having mentioned these many resources pour ces his report was instrumental in causing the shippers traffic association to launch the movement we do not think that we are transgressing our authority in any way when we assure the association of our heartiest cooperation and of the best assistance towards realizing the project southern commercial clubs chambers of commerce service clubs and civic organizations of any description together with the public press of this part of the state will stand behind the shippers traffic association in further ing their plans the northern noi them thern part of the state has not been any too generous in cooperating with us many a movement originating liere here that would i have been to the benefit of our part of the state was opposed by salt take lake and other cities of the north we therefore rejoice so much the more in seeing a movement that I 1 would benefit southern utah original ng in an association the headquarters of which are in salt lake city we will be only too glad to forget all past quarrels and jealousies and we assure our neighbors to the north that in this case we will be with them and for them |
