Show SALIN AITES TURN PIONEERS around the hills east of salina a ca caravan van crawled tuesday that teat had it not been for the telephone lines good roads and other modem improvements ilien ts would really have looked like a pioneer train traveling slowly across across tho the plains the caravan carallas Car allan consisted of several old and dilapidated d covered wagons sonic some buggies in in a worse state and two hand carts the occupants of the wagons were dressed in worn norn garments ol 01 old style the women wearing wear i sun Run 01 days and apart from the fact that the horses were a trifle too plump for animals that had draped dragged loads across the desert the train was all it should have been brigham casto acted as the master I 1 athe train which started from jesse steeles home ionic and vent around the foothills east of town to the stone quarry where the pioneers settled for the night one of the buggies had lost a wheel and was left outside the circle fires were built and preparations for the meal made when the master scout gave the signal that indians were coming A dozen town boag in indian garb in war paint AM oil OH their ponies made very good braves and came down the hill h ill side filing ailing and shooting they circled around the camp several times shooting grabbed a lad and made off to the hills again in the meantime some of the red men set fire to the buggy that was left outside the circle the indians escaped but not without some loss for three of the braves bit the dust only they refused to stay dead and soon raised up grinning one man was scalped scalded by accident his wig coming off after the sham battle the indians lined up with the mounted scouts and headed the magnificent parade with the train of wagons following the two hand carts pulled by some of the pioneers brought up the rear of the wagons and were followed by a float of utah a huge bee hive with several girls dressed to bees then came the band and numerous other beautiful floats the pa marched west to the hospital turned and marched back to main street where here they disbanded immediately in mediately edia tely following the parade a pio program grani was given at the social hall with dr M H knudsen as is the orator of the day the program was as follows song congregation congi congie elation gation invocation Bligh brigham ain casto song congregation selection band piano selection election mrs mr I 1 I 1 S J ottley selection by old time orchestra male quartet utah we love thee oration by M 11 knud sell gen accordion solo E W biane closing song america congregation benediction C P Ok eilund the afternoon of the twenty fourth was spent at the city park paik where here racing and various contests contest were indulged in A base ball game ans was iso a feature of the afternoon A free kiddies dance was given at the social hall at 4 and at 5 0 clock those past fifty years of age were entertained bained ai at a free picture show at the victory theater the closing feature of the day was as usual a dance at r wd ked mont 0 A alige crowd attended all the fea of the pio pi grani anti and all claim it was the best twenty fourth they can remember |
