Show TUPPER or proving that sensible replies can be given without abu giue swe language dear mr MK editor in looking over the job of making a detailed statement of receipts ts an and d disbursements of county funds in the last 18 months I 1 have come to th ohp conclusion that it is too big a job to undertake at this time as there would be about warrants wai ai rants to publish with c explanations on each which in some cases would amount to considerable sid erable space so I 1 have decided decide to explain the two to largest items mentioned in the taxpayers request and ask him or any other ta taxpayer payer to come in ill and we will give thern them all of the information we can ifould like to say however that the mention of officers salaries in the article written by tile the taxpayer might be ba misleading a as s to officers salaries and I 1 would like to say that the treasurer anti and clerk get each 1400 per year the county commissioners each 15 per year ear with an allowance of per year for expenses both amounts bein being set by statute the ra assessor Us s sessor e ss s s 0 r attorney sheriff and sir mr anton nielson each get 1200 per year and tile the recorder 1100 per year the fi sul surveyor beyor gets per year the tha deputy gets ca per month bebau because se of long service gendered len dered the other deputies 60 per month and extra hided help 2 per lay day the treas uler is under bonds the as continued on page eight county auditor answers Ai An letter of 0 f taxpayer continued filin page one cesor acet sor and the rest res t 2500 except the sti who nho is sundry small items which take up considerable amount of space pace to the amount of 2111 1 1 the books and stati stationery 1 onery account cc rit k is made up of the fol following owing items furniture rugs adding ma chinch chins and adding machine repairs etc payments to reaper for advertising V ver rt etc recoil books legal blanks paper pens envelopes postage and filing cases etc anio amounting untim to tile the record books mentioned in the last amount are no small portion of the bools books and stationery stationer as in the eighteen months month we have used ap proximately prom fifteen record books gauging banging in in prices from 2750 to 95 most of them from 45 to 66 65 anil and fifteen justice dockets at about an average of 15 each this may seem a large amount to use but the busi 1 ness of the offices ila has so increased that in the time I 1 have been in office which is a little over five years we have filed ove one fourth of all the civil tint and criminal cases filed in the county since its organization and orie one fifth of all the cases filed in the county since its organization the county was organized in 1865 the number of cases filed in court is quite a factor in determining what work there is to do and the amount of stationery used as is also the amount of ta sales and tax deeds up until 1922 there were issued to the county tax deeds since that time or since I 1 have been in the office there have been tax deeds issued to sevier county and about drainage dia inage dis tracts so you can see the increase i in in that direction more than in all previous diotis years vears about were issued last year in the recorders office they recorded last year deeds mortgages and other instruments and all were recorded in these expensive ecord books which bich are perma permanent nent records and therefore cheap books cannot be used about wo two thirds that much recording was as done in tile the clerks office As to the items on oil rent part of it wa waa rent on the arrow service Sti station tion and part rent on oil ma chinecy rented to the company who built the rond road bioni richfield to salina and part was on contracts of sale of property pio perty 1 taken by the county for taxes which ch contracts provided 1 that if the balance was not paid within a certain time the initial payment as to be forfeited as rental now sir mr editor e are asking for bids for auditing of the county lec ord but outside of that and this explanation ue e invite any tapa tap yei ayel to come in and look over the books or we will go through the books with him and give him all tile the information that w e can in regard to the countes coun tys affairs there are about 63 on the indigent list with an average of a little over per month and about 25 or 30 who have asked ask for help fut have not been put on on account of lack of funds there has also been persons taken oft off from time to time who aho were considered capable of calcin taking care of themselves or widows who have been married etc respectfully submitted E ELROY THURSTON county clerk sevier county |
