courthouse the 1 sy aci JC i M j 41 i w ta 1 ol 01 republican candidate for judge sixth judicial district sixth judicial and tenth senatorial district conventions both covering the same territory to wit sevier wayne plute garfield and kane counties eap exp expecting acting a keen c competition among the candidates for district attorney and state senator many people interested in politics adherents of both major parties had assembled to witness the proceedings and not only the court room but also the adjoining rooms of the clerk and the commissioners were f 1 I republican candidate Condl Condi date tor for district attorney fully occupied by delegates and spectators and many stood in the hall outside the courtroom to watch the happenings with interest the appointment of delegates from the several counties wa based on our delegates tor for each voted or major portion thereof cast for governor mayjoy four yearl years ago which gave sevier county 25 wayne 4 plute 5 garfield 10 and kano kane 5 delegates for each of the conventions the delegates tor for the judicial convention wore were as follows sevier county redmond J B sorensen C T nielson welbon salina S 11 county emory emery king guy evans R A meeks boyd ivie judi judicial cint convention the sixth sith judicial district convention was called to order shortly after 2 bolock by district chairman parley magleby district secretary thos haycock read the call and the temporary organization as determined upon in district committee meeting was sustained with nith judge J H erickson as chairman john H luke of pluto county as secretary thos haycock as sergeant at arms judge erickson Erick aon sounded the keynote speech referring to the record of legislative and executive accomplishments ments mode made by the party under the harding and coolige administrations when the name of president coolidge was wag mentioned in the speech for the first time the delegates roso and cheered enthusiastically the speaker concluded when we review what the party has accomplished ne have no fear of the outcome of this campaign 1924 will be a republican year upon motion of T A hunt seconded by emery king ench each of the counties was to select one delegate member each to committees of credentials Credentia ils platform and resolutions and organization and order of business and after a recess of five minutes the to give the committees time tor for deliberation and after reconvening hy lorson read the recommendations of the committee to make the temporary organization permanent and then to proceed with the business of the convention by hearing and acting on the report of the committees on credentials and on platform and resolution nominating candidates for district judge and district attorney voting on the th e nominee by secret ballots and organizing gan izing a judicial district committee the report was unanimously adopted next order of business consequently was the reading of the reports of the two committees for the committee on credentials chairman n rowan reported that the credentials credentia I 1 s of all delegates present were found cor correct and secretary beal tor for the committee on platform and resolutions read the platform which we axe are publishing elsewhere else where in the paper all reports were adopted without a dissenting vote 0 C snow delegate from richfield voting district no 11 rose to nominate N J bates for district judge the nomination was ceona ed the rules upon motion ot of T A hunt were suspended and mr bates was nominated by acclamation two candidates were nominated tor for district attorney H E beal by S M IN jorgensen and parley magleby by dr J L I 1 curtis the first nomination seconded by T A hunt the other one by J lerue ogden after the tellers mrs rose hamblin th os sevy dr heath and J B sorensen had counted the votes mrs hamblin announced that 25 constitutes a majority of the votes cast and that 27 were cast tor for H E beal 22 tor for parley magleby mr beals name will go before the voters as republican candidate in the november elections election a both candidates nominated were called upon to make epe speeches echea and bothe ot of them assured the delegates of 0 their high appreciation of the honor bestowed upon them mr bates batea inviting the delegates to aa semie after the convention at smiths cafe and join him for some refreshments which invitation of course was waa gratefully accepted delegate T A hunt offered a motion which was wan seconded that the chair appoint a committee of tour four to confer with a like committee to be appointed by the senatorial convention for the purpose ot combining the judicial and the senatorial attrial district into one organization so ao that the two conventions could be held in one the motion earned and chairman judge erickson appointed on tile the committee R A of wayne county gilbert 11 beebe c of f piute diute county H C lapson of sevier county and C E rowan of garfield county the judicial district was organized iz 1 I with parley magleby mag aleby as chairman and geo 11 ogden as secretary no other bi business viness on hand the convention adjourned si nedie tile the sen convention after a short recess several of the delegates having been elected for cor both conventions the senatorial convention convened at the same place district chairman hans P ipson not being present pre ent the convention was called to order by thos sevy of panguitch who moved to organize temporarily with C E rowan of barfield Par garfield field county as chairman and guy evans of wayne county as secretary this was done and chairman rowan without any preliminary speeches immediately took up the business of the convention appointing committees hearing their reports and nominating and electing the candidates tor for sens senator tor the report of the committee on rules was to make the temporary organization permanent the committee on credentials reported the credentials denti als of all delegates in proper shape and the committee an platform and resolutions recommended to adopt the platform agreed upon by the judicial convention all reports were adopted as read and nominations were in order A tour four cornered corne redi fight developed and it took five ballots to reach a decision giving D H robinson of junction the nomination by 26 votes one above the required majority of 25 48 delegates voting delegate miller of panguitch nominated thos sevy hickman of richfield nominated G T bean G evans off los loa nominated V E king aad and gilbert beebe of junction nominated D H robinson the votes in the five ballots were as follows I 1 first ballot sevy 13 bean 41 king 12 robinson 19 second ba baat ot sevy 17 bean bean 1 king 9 robinson 23 third ballot sevy 17 be bean 1 king 8 robinson 23 fourth ballot sevy 18 dean bean 1 king 5 robinson 24 fifth ballot sevy 17 bean 1 king 4 robinson 26 sevy bean and king jointly moved to make the nomination of D H robinson unanimous and the motion carried the convention adopted the suggestion made by the judicial committee M attee to combine the judicial and senatorial districts into one and hold their convention jointly so that chairman parley magleby and secretary gep geo H ogden will be the officers of the combined district after a few remarks by the nominee and the other candidates thanking
