Show G OVER ni ENT AC VERSUS RV m hy federal attorney inspects salina canyon before starting j cancellation proceedings S W williams ot of washington D C special assistant to the U S attorney general who was delegated to salt lake city to assist U S district attorney chas M morris of the utah district in his proceeding as to cancellation of the government in nt lease to the D R G western railroad tor for building and operating a railroad up salina canyon was in richfield and salina end of 0 last week to study the question on the grounds concerned in this action mr air williams had here conferee con conferences feren e lea with members of the comm commercial arc 1 club and county commissioners and was taken to the salina canyon by C J sumner representing the club and the sevier valley coal co saturday to inspect the grounds and to add knowledge of facts to his knowledge of the law A after after fter getting acquainted quain ted with th locality mr wil stated that he will be ready to tile file tile the complaint against the railroad company in two or three weeks As explained in our issue of last week the U S government is deeply interested in the matter for the reason that the D R G held the lease and the rights of way for more mor e than twenty years and in tact fact has laid some tracks up the canyon long ago but has never used them and used their rights only to prevent others from building roads thereby retarding the development of the vast resources laying dormant in tile the canyon principally coal A part of the right of way traverses a forest reserve area and even the forest service was handicapped on account of the lease in keeping their I trails open |
