Show ROAD BOAD SIG SIGNING AND THE UTAH STATE automobile association I 1 the utah scenic highway association was instrumental instrumental in having tha tb auto club of southern california come before our state road commission with a request to permit them to mark the highways and trails south of salt lake city leading to southern california over a route that reveals to the tourist the scenic wonders benders andi and beauties of 0 southern utah assisted by the scenic highway association and favored by the salt lake chamber of commerce the auto club of 0 southern 1 calibo california ania succeeded in obtaining the necessary permission and all was well until a cert certain a in dictator of the so called utah state automobile uto mobile association which in tact fact is nothing else but a salt lake automobile association so came to io the conclusion that marking the southern utah highways would interfere with his revengeful plans to keep tourists away from southern souther utah this certain dictator did it must be known had bad obtained many memberships lor for his club under the false Ir pretense etense that lie be will route tourists over the salt lake grand canyon highway this rout routing ilig however remained an empty promise when the southern utah members of the so called utah automobile association saw baw that mr die dic had promised only to get their money without ever intending to fulfill the promise they withdrew and bast cast their lot with other associations like the pikes peak ocean to ocean and the utah scenic highway association that not only were promising but also doing things from this moment on the heart of I 1 mr dictator was filled with thoughts of revenge and so it ft came to pass that he started a vigorous fight against the plans of 0 the scenic highway association and the southern california club the task was made easy tor for him on account of the fact that hat he also is a member of the staff of t a salt lake dally daily paper and he promptly enlisted that daily in the cohorts of his followers the paper the salt lake tribune devoted an editorial to the plans of 0 mr dictator and inthis editorial it says fortunately one general and central body in utah the state road r commission is vested with authority to regulate tho the signing of the utah highways and one trustworthy and I 1 faithful organization the utah state automobile association haA has already done much of the road signing these I 1 two to cooperating bodies have hav elthe the in teresta of utah at heart exclusively and can be trusted to have utah and utah 1 I I 1 their sign s we agree ath ft quoted ap 4 i Z I 1 11 graph in so s wf far ar abw as we e think it is really re I 1 I 1 fortunate to have one central body vested with authority to regulate the signing of utah highways on the other hand we do not agree agee with that hat part which says that one trustworthy and faithful organization tile the utah state automobile association has alre already ady done much of pe ithe road signing perhaps they have done much but what they have done so far is showing the tourists by their marks the quickest way out of 01 the state without bringing them to the glorious scenic marvels of ours for this reason the association can 1 neither be ca callad liti d trustworthy nor faithful besides would anybody call a man trustworthy who makes promises without in the least trying to live up tip to them maybe the tribune would we would not mr dictator of the trustworthy and faithful association association wrote a letter to tho secretary of our commercial club stating in plain language that he be wont send a single toil tourist rist our way it if we wont join the association this threat is nothing less but an infringement on the tourist who tri ta this way are deprived of seeing some of the prettiest and most gorgeous scenic beauty of the world and at the same time is something akin to blackmail against the people of southern utah the utah automobile association is largely composed of business who aro are selling goodgo goo dito the people of southern utah how would the they like it it if the people of southern utah would turn around and tell them if you dont send tourists our way we wont buy any goods from you the people of southern utah up to now have been trustworthy and faithful and have not resorted to such revengeful schemes but they might by and by adopt t such plans if they are driven to despair by constant discrimination |
