| Show J H BAKER STILL STIL L HIGH FIELDIAN IN T AT LEA ST while resident of waterloo still thinks talks and writes of richfield J H baker former president of the richfield commercial club and now a resident of waterloo iowa writes write 3 to secretary H B E beal a letter er which speaks tor for itself here it is As the holiday season approaches one naturally thinks of the friends and associates which he likes best beat and I 1 am perfectly frank in telling you that in my wanderings over this middle west territory have I 1 become acquainted with anyone who will quite take the place of richfield friends have read with confide considerable rable interest i in the reaper each week of the activities of 0 the club and many the time have I 1 wished that I 1 could attend the meetings and luncheons in connection with this will say that I 1 have driven the car nearly sixteen thousand miles this year and have covered covered a wide area of ter territory 0 and d ry in in so doing have attended d a great many commercial club and chamber of Com commerer meetings and dinners at omaha especially when they found the writer had lived in utah tor for so many years and were very curious as to conditions in utah and from my replies I 1 could see that some way the majority had entirely the wrong impression and was more than pleased to set them right am very glad to see that the club Is doing such abood a good work and teel feel that it will continue pleased to note that they are working on the pavement and am sure that when same is completed it will make ad dit ional tourist business for richfield there Is one idea that I 1 bellev believe e would be a mighty tine fine thing for richfield in connection with the tourist traffic and that Is on the main road entering from all sides to erect erea ere A a neat little sign as follows I 1 you will like richfield Bich Held t every tourist is 19 anxious to know what town he is about to enter this gives him the information and at the same time sells him the town you get the idea I 1 am sure in connection with it will say that am sure this could be put over in nice shape the thought came to me that since I 1 like richfield Richtie ld am sure that the other tellow fellow would when he saw this suggested to him there is one nice custom most of the larger towns have here in iowa that is along about the first of december each year on nearly every corner a christmas tree is erected in the street and then illuminated with colored lights it sure makes the stranger welcome and seems to especially to the farmers who as a rule feel that the town people have no interest in them except to get their money and as I 1 have driven through these towns I 1 have ed how would look tiiu the christmas trees and like decorations and you can see from the above that my thoughts are still with you folks with kind personal regards to all members of the club and to you and mrs beal I 1 am yours truly J H baker |
