Show RICHFIELD HIOT HIGH SCHOOLS F FIRST ASSEMBLY IN NEW TERM yearly early stu students dents and I 1 many patrons Pre present ent addresses by president of school board and superintendent the auditorium of the richfield high school was well filled with students and school patrons last friday when the new term opened with an assembly that was a credit to the institution up to that time about students ilind registered and nearly mearly every one of them was present and parents and patrons showed growing interest in Rich fields highest institute of learning by attending in greater numbers than at any high school assembly before waves of class rivalry between between freshmen and sophomores always alwa s going higher at the opening of ae the term than at any other time precaution had been taken that no clashes occur during assembly by sealing the fresnics fre shies to the extreme left of the hall and the so plis to the et extreme reme right the middle rows were occupied by juniors seniors and parents to the tune of a march played by the school land band J L terr terry y director the faculty the executive committee of the student body and the speakers en the auditorium and took their aerts on the stage principal martin offered a hearty welcome to 10 the students telling among other things that already over students have registered for the term among then them freshmen and sa sophomores when the registration is completed the class rolls therefore will probably show over names the I 1 band played A rural celebration seminary teacher J harrington or of the invocation A chorus of i sophomore girls then took the platform singing yes we have some green Fre shies to the tune of yes we have no bananas superintendent ashman was the first speaker he spoke of the growth of the high school since the time he was teacher and principal of the school up to lo the present year when the number of students increased from in all three high schools to probably in richfield alone formerly a canvas was made to induce parents to send their children cb ildren to high schools but since then entrance and study requirements have been raised to a higher level until now the school is not any more after numbers but after work and merit take your jobs seriously he exhorted the students telling them of the sacrifice the parents have bare to make to give the children a higher education and explaining them that such an education will enable them to climb higher and higher on the ladder of success while the unskilled and uneducated worker will fore forever ver end where he be started at the bottom seniors madge peterson and sadie i howarth very pleasingly gave a cos 1 j tume duet after which president hayes haves of the aboard of education took the stand for an excellent address he first spoke of the splendid reputation our high school has among the colleges and impressed upon the students that it now willi will the be their duty to keep up that reputation we are are treating the subject in the editorial column of this weeks reaper in continuing his address the speaker gave students as well as faculty some good advice paraphrasing dickens words whatever I 1 have undertaken to do in life both in great alms aims and small 1 have always tried with all my heart to do well judge hayesl hayes remarks were most appropriate for an occasion of that kind and ought to be well remembered by all who heard them after a soprano solo with band accompaniment miss mabel ence soloist principal martin introduced the new faculty members misses ruth simons girls physical education and tine fine art alta redd en and oral expression maurine aurine Bl cC carlisle charlisle english genevieve hatch domestic art and Il essers M vr smith agriculture and merrill dee seal meal history and civics with the regular announcements irom the principal and faculty members came to a close and at 1 P in the students assembled in their classes tor for real work |
