government and renew our belief and adherence to the policies of the the republican party under whose control the people have consistently prospered and enjoyed the maximum of prosperity and achievement we hc arti commend and indorse the beneficial benefi beneficial cil 1 policies and principles enunciated in tile the state republican platform adopted by the state republican publican convention on oil the lath day clay of july 1922 and submit the same saine to tile the serious consideration of the citizens of this state and county we view the achievements of tile the republican party in its past administration seeing as we do in this administration the consuma consula tion of those principles of truth justice right and equality which carries this nation to the front in the worlds admiration and inspires confidence T in the hearts of this mighty people some of the outstanding principles voiced and established by and through the republican party are these creating an increase to individual initiative through private ownership establishing a country of opportunity a country of individual civil liberty and the shaping of the policies of the country in an endeavor to meet the changing conditions of the nation based upon sympathy justice and progress we reaffirm our belief in the principles of the republican party be cause it is a constructive party because it is a party ot of the constitution and of nationalism a party of force power and ideals of a great nation a party ever standing for progress improvements advancement and unadulterated americanism a party that maintains and enforces its principles and a party that has faith in the republic and the republics power to do and to grow a party which distinctly stands for tour four sets of influences which have made america first the strong constructive nationalism of washington hamilton marshall and webster the men who laid the foundation of this government ern ment second tor for the up building of american industry and the development of Aine american rican roads and canals tor for operation through the leadership of republican men third for the moral idealism of abraham lincoln who presided over the stormy and troubled years in the history of this republic with such care and sympathy fourth the vigor and vision of Roosevel ts insight into modern industrial du and social problems and its teachings of service which have permeated the nation through ills his example further we indorse the record achieved under republican rule in the state of utah and in this nation and declare for a continuance of the same during the ensuing years to the end that all classes and conditions of people throughout thi broad land shall reap the bedew thereof we heartily approve of the efforts of our local and county officers during the past two years we assert that at no time has the county been better or more economically served in the administration of the local affairs we are conscious of the fact that the cost of living remains high ana that there is not as active a market for our local products as could be desired and wo we pledge ourselves and our representatives to the speedy enactment of such laws as will protect us from inflation or prices and from the sharp practices of profiteers as well as to bend every effort to stimulate and advance market prices for tile the products of our several communities we submit that taxation is the foundation of all government and we favor any or all enactments which will more equally distribute taxation 1 according to the ability of tile the individuals taxed to 0 o pay we regret and deplore the great burden of debt created during the tenure of 0 office of the recent democratic administration and recognize that tho the burden so created saps the wealth and makes our living conditions practically intolerable we commend the unceasing efforts of state and county officials in decreasing this burden and pledge our nominees to a continuation of this policy striving in all ways consistent with good government to lighten the load of the taxpayers by abolishing all unnecessary commissions and expenditures tures recognizing that sevier county through the z zeal and forethought of its inhabitants has been able to impound sufficient water to make this valley one of the best watered and most fertile in the state we resent that particular enactment of the democratic legislature which attempts to take away the regulation of the water from the judicial branch and place it within the hands bands and under the power of the state engineer we declare this to be a miscarriage of justice and contrary to the best interests of tho the people of this state of utah we favor the immediate repeal of this unjust and vicious law and pledge our candidate tor for the legislature to work untiringly tor for the enactment of the law that will properly safeguard the long established rights of water users in this state we also submit that the law creating ing the public utilities commission is based upon lack of information and error in the rulings of the commission it appears that the purpose of its creation to wit the protection of the public interests has been ignored and overridden while on the other hand some of the great utilities of the state have received far more consideration at the hands of the commission than under the law and the facts of the case they were entitled to we seek to have the power of the utilities commission placed upon a basis more in harmony with the rights of the citizens and lastly we pledge our nominees and ourselves to the rigid anci ana careful enforcement of the laws ot the land and vigorously urge that all violations of the las lans be summarily dealt with u ith to the end that the protection of morals property and liberty shall attain the utmost possible in tile the county of sevier |
