Show B Y U EXTENSION DIVISION chautauqua hish high class programs were given audience was shamefully small the B Y U extension division chautauqua held here last neck under the auspices of the richfield commercial club was a fine success as to programs furnished but a sad failure financially finan cally the first of 0 the programs was furnished by professor T earl pardoe who read to a very small but dellet ed and appreciative audience audien e the violin maker of cremona a one act play from the french by francois copee and a sketch alien written by professor pardoe himself As a reader professor pardoe has very few equals in the west this is a well known fact judging from the sketch he read here lie he is of equally high class as allius alLI author UL those who did not hear him missed an artistic treat of high order thursday night the second performance for mance we heard trios by the three johnson sisters violet celestia and rhoda readings by JC Cel elestla estla johnson tenor solos by richard condle condie duets by violet johnson and and richard condie and piano solos by mrs leona van iran wagoner who also alpo nas as the accompanist proving in in both capacities unusual ability she has a fine technique and plays with soul all the other numbers of the program were very good and rendered most creditably A third program was given friday night by the norita quartet and professor fred bass the quartet is a flue fine musical aggregation composed by helen newell soprano alene philips violin ireta ruy roy 1 lauce lance cello and florence newell piano their solo and ensemble work was equally excellent and it i we give special mention to M ISS phillips it is not to minimize min inize the others but to pay a compliment to the wonderful accomplishments of this young musician who in our opinion has a splendid future professor buss gave an illustrated lecture on oil other worlds than ours which aroused the interest of the listeners |
