Show HOA ahr L SEVIER CANYON NOW all OPEN temporary timber structure turc joins the alio broken cement bridge and road repairs are aio completed the S e f v i e r marysvale road through sevier canyon is now open to traffic for the first time since the washing out of 0 the cement bridge near the railroad tunnel in fit the early days of this seasons flood waters the bridge was broken in two at that time but the steel reinforcement of the concrete structure held the broken structure practically in place while tile the river cut a new channel around the broken end A temporary timber and plant structure has been erected over this new river channel and joins the cement bridge making a perfectly good bridge extension and opening the highway through the canyon 0 P washburn has had charge of 0 the road and bridge repairs and on monday afternoon the bridge was completed and the canyon road was again open to traffic the canyon road has been closed since early in may and the old road through monroe and up over poverty flat was repaired and thus traffic between sevier and southern points was kept going but this old road has a stiff climb from each side making difficulties for cars and horses and a return to the easy canyon grade will be hailed with delight by those having occasion to travel to and from marysvale Mary Marys avale vale the marysvale Marys vale people are delighted at the reopening of the canyon road they have chafed chafee somewhat at the delay in opening the canyon road since the flood waters receded and a state road employed has been urging the 1 marysvale Marys vale people that he could open the road within three thre or four days and make the necessary bridge repairs it if the sevier county commissioners would empower him to do the work the commissioners set their own men to work the road at the mouth of the canyon has been reconstructed constructed Te and necessary bridge and road repairs are now completed according to mr washburn no other repairs on the cement bridge will be made at present as he declares the bridge to be in the wrong place and the steep steel hill leading from the bridge south should be eliminated this mr washburn declares can be accomplished by constructing the road alongside the railroad grade for a short distance south and erect a bridge at a point near the tunnel this will eliminate the long hill and 91 give ve the river a direct channel under tile the proposed bridge mr washburn does not believe this work will be done at present but eventually the horseshoe horse shoe curve steep grade and present bridge will be eliminated and a better grade a more substantial bridge and a straight river channel will result in the changes suggested the work of cleaning le velling and smoothing the canyon road Is still being pursued and travelers will appreciate tile the reopening of the sevier canyon road |
