H S at 12 P 11 thursday luncheon was served to the members of the board of education who remained with tile the school during the day their time being employed in the visiting of classes we the feel to thank them and trust that they will continue to visit us in the future that we may know them better and that the they may j also know us and better understand the progress that is being made in aha school the past week has been especially designated as educational week the last event being a program and social under the direction of the parents and teachers association friday evening high S Ss lioom honor roll mr martin with the aid of lynn chidester is compiling the honor roll which will be announced in the near future the honor roll includes tile tho A and B 13 ranks which are awarded on 10 high school Stude students lits need Nu nurcy cs at last mondays 1 assembly mr martin made a short but emphatic speech on the subject of high school students and nurses he said that some parents had told him that their children altho they left home at the proper hours were failing to attend their classes and sometimes were even tailing failing to get to school at all mr air INI martin artin intimated that hat lie he felt that the members of the faculty were to heavily loaded with their work to bother about hunting up students who were to trifling to understand their own personal responsibilities about attending their classes regular i ly and lie he added that if any of our high school students needed nurse maids to bring them to and from school they should look elsewhere tor for them and should not expect the members of the faculty to do this 0 the monday assembly the regular assembly which was held at nine on monday day though short was a very interesting one for the opening song mr terry led the student body in the well loved and familiar song tho the flag of the free the regular ten minute senior talk was given by miss norvilla jesson who chose tor for her subject self re liance miss liss jesson handled her subject very well ell and gave us some good advice that will be long remembered by all she told us that self reliance is the mark of genius also that self respect is based on tile the same principle prin as self reliance and so it if we have respect for ourselves 0 no o most certainly have self reliance enough to carry us on to success to christmas day the schools will reopen tuesday morning january 3rd ard the board of education spent two days last week in visiting the schools of the south rt of the district and richfield annabella central and monroe grades were visited in the forenoon at noon the board and the teachers in the grade school and t the he high school at ml monroe onroe met at the high school for luncheon miss heywood of the home economics department assisted by a number of the girls taking her work served a most excellent repast in the afternoon elsinore EI and joseph were visited before the party could reach cove the school day had expired so cove will be visited at some other time on tuesday almost the entire day was taken in visiting the schools principal martin of the high school had worked corked out a schedule tor for visits the party was divided in two groups and taken to the various classes for a ten minute visit this method proved to he be so satisfactory that the board decided to visit each of the other high schools in just the same way the members of the board were all thoroughly interested in tile the work ork of the schools and were nere gratified at the quality of work being done by the teachers in the schools visited after tile the christmas vacation a plan of visiting will be submitted to the board of education by tile the superintendent erin it is proposed this committee of the teachers association approved this plan of teachers meeting from reports to the superintendent education week was a great success in the schools where it was observed discussions and debates on school questions were nere held daily with special emphasis on the tax problem the schools gave out correct information on taxes with the sole aim of letting the people know knon exactly who is facing life cheerfully in spite of the fact that she is blind she plays football and she sees through her sense of touch and smell she romps through the grove and sees and smells as she goes evening llo ll 11 O 0 that tells the story completely we ale heard that venice had no eighth grade so took our second team to make the game more interesting from the first tossup toss up until the final whistle our boys had the ball in their possession venice got very few tries at the brisket basket and then failed to put them through the star performer was von anderson who was altogether too hensens Jen sens contribution was awarded the first prize his will be adopted as the permanent school song this song is as near perfect as it could be and is a literary gem the lyric strain beloved north sevier which runs all through it will make this song live others who composed songs of worthy mention are elna ivie ivic whose song received second place phyllis Sc and vaughn herberts received honorable mention this song contest not only gave the school its song and promoted school spirit but it proved that we had a number of poet geniuses A library board meeting was held friday at 4 various matters of 0 importance were discussed the secretary was authorized to place an order for several new books an ali account of the years e expenditures x tures wa was presented and the secretary was authorized to send it to the carnegie institute steps will ill be taken towards getting the carnegie people to build the long promised library building the library is rapidly growing and either an annexation of another room or preferably a new building is necessary basket ball is coming to the front although our league games will not come until after the holidays we are having rousing
