with four sessions of conference d department L part ment meetings for sunday school workers M I 1 A workers relief society workers religion class workers and primary association workers E every cry minute of tho the day was fl filled ed and the workers vor kers and visitors were I 1 in n 1 I 1 I in their labors the conference with vilh its multitude of meetings and cou counsel livel was a splendid success and the labors of officers teachers and lay members will always stand out as the beginning of a now new departure that will mark an unprecedented era of progress in church snork ork in sevier stake an innovation in conference work was the printed program with well defined lessons and definite objectives mapped out the program was scrupulously pulou sly followed ad the many meetings of departments lost much by the defante lines that were followed presiding patriarch smith elders joseph H taylor and nathan T porter miss sarah mclellan Mc LelIan mrs may booth talmage and mrs sterling B D talmage did much service in presiding over the various department meetings after the opening session on saturday morning which lasted until 11 the audience divided into departments part ments which the first ward chapel the conference was held beld is so admirably adapted tor for the file departments were relief society where miss aliss mclellan Mc LelIan presided M I 1 A workers where joseph H taylor antl and mrs may booth talmage gave instruction primary association mrs sterling B talmage as leader sunday school workers with N T porter in charge and the religion class work where patriarch smith presided the work of these departments department had been carefully outlined and the workers were given efficient instruction and many problems were considered si at 2 there was ill an increased attendance and tor for an hour thero was a discussion of the organization of the social forces in the church by elder taylor at 3 tile the department meetings were resumed and again the problems that would lead to effi efficiency clenCy opre worked out and workers again received specific instruction at 4 presiding jeffiers of organizations met in one department secretaries and treasurers treasur ers in adoth b fer br r choristers cho and organists in an other here specific wor k of each of these officers cors and leaders was taken up and valuable instruction given sunday 31 morning orning on sunday morning department meetings were resumed at 9 und and continued until 1030 when the general conference session convened an address on teacher training mas ivas delivered deliver cd by N T porter and various members of the congregation took part in a discussion of this important part of the work of auxiliary organizations all of which have teachers in th ahr r particular organization at this session appeared tile the special choir which stake chorister john hood had prepared this body of singers sang as a special number dudley bucks noted anthem god la Is our refuge in a spirited and refreshing manner sunday afternoon at 1 there was a general session of all sunday school workers which w ill eh taxed the auditorium and the normal report aud and business and preparation meetings of sunday school workers were demonstrated ind and conducted by elder porter in a session filled with enthusiasm which gave inspiration to the workers at the general conference secession sees sion was opened when nearly all the visitors were asked to address the meeting T N taylor president of utah stake and incidentally democratic nominee for governor delivered an interesting talk in ill which he made a plea tor for closer companionship between father and his sons the session was enlivened with the following musical numbers 1 I waited for the lord a duet for two sopranos and chorus miss naomi heppler and christine robinson sustained the solo parts in a high creditable manner and the work of the chorus was splendid the from Ros sinis stabat mater was given by mrs R G dark clark and chorus in the splendid manner we admire in this soloist mrs george holmstead sang fear not 0 israel a beautiful and dramatic sacred solo and sang with wonderful expression tho the closing musical number was a spirited rendition of the hallelujah chorus from the Alessi messiah all sunday evening the sunday evening meeting was given over to the M I 1 associations and dr curtis of the young mens division I 1 presided after a congregational hymn mrs J ill peterson and he choir sang difficult but beautiful motet hear my prayer in a most interesting manner then followed a ten minute demonstration on of community singing led by mrs alfred bird and this was greatly enjoyed mrs bird also conducted demonstrations in community singing during tho the day interesting addresses by the visiting instructors were delivered round ang out a day of intense tense religious bious fervor and instruction mrs almo B simmons gave a beautiful rendition of tile the chief theme from the opera the serenade tile the angelus with a splendid supporting accompaniment by the choir and the closing nu number aber by tho the choir was god be with you thus ending an instructive two days conference MeC electing till it was necessary essaiy during sunday afternoon to hold an overflow meeting in the ward amusement hall and this was presided over by john christensen chrisensen t of the stake presidency several of the visitors spoke at this ine meeting eting and mr tr montague of elsinore led tile the congregational singing A special music number was a solo I 1 by y miss heppler of venice who sang mosanna in a pleasing manner this me etrig like the other meetings was attended by an audience that filled every available inch of space the attendance luring during the afternoon at the two meetings was well over a thousand |
