Show DUN all I 1 maake CHIM I 1 A L S A K E CITIZENS S sound mid theory put into practice by county attorney michelson MicheLs cn I 1 in n the latter part of march of this year two young men plead guilty in the district court of this county to a charge of grand larceny and received an indefinite sentence to the state penitentiary during the time they were in the custody of the local officers county attorney T became interested in the one young man charles by name and had a number of conversations with him nir mr came to the conclusion that the boy was not really a criminal at heart but had fallen into bad company with disastrous results so just before they were taken lakon to salt lake lie he told this young ma man n that if he would promise to do better to quit rambling from one end of the country to the other and to 10 light somewhere and gut get a steady job and to make something out of himself that he would assist him to this end the boy gave the promise and at the first opportunity mr recommended to the state board of pardons that charles be paroled and given employment this recommendation was granted by the pardon board and he was given his parole this week mr had a letter from the boy who informs him that he is working in a machine shop getting fair wages and the foreman of the shop is helping him with a correspondence course in electrical engineering and that he be is applying himself diligently to his hig work ond and his studies bt udies no man is a failure until he admits it himself and no man should ile be held down forever because he be makes a mistake ml staRe had this young man not received this opportunity and been allowed to drift not been treated with encouragement or assistance there is no telling the kind of citizen he might have developed into As it is he at least has an opportunity to yet make a good citizen wo we cannot avoid the tact fact that the rule laid down ages ago that we are our brothers keeper holds holde with equal force today to day |
