Show MONROE NEWS NOTES sirs mr S arthur hodges a former resident of Mon monroe roc died of influenza on a farm a short distance from arco idaho she lied died jan IS her father hugh lisonbee brought lier her body here for burial wednesday evening mr hodges and the children have the influenza luenz in a very light form but were unable to leave home mrs hodges was born in INI monroe onroe 30 years ago jul july 22 last besides her husband she leaves five children the youngest IS 18 months old she also leaves her father and four sisters mrs lottle lottie manson of monroe who is just recovering from a severe attack of influenza mrs roy tuft of myton mr susanna judd and in mrs zilpher dibble dabble of salt lake I 1 tir mr an and d mrs ir irs tuft came to monroe I onroe to attend the funeral they having had the flu some time ago funeral services were held at the old family residence here thursday at I 1 bishop W 0 lundgreen of the north ward conducted the services that will be glory for me sometime well understand Lnders tand 1 I N need eed thee every hour and 1 nearer my god to thee were sung very fittingly by a male quartette under the leadership of F B goold the speakers were jos A smith bishop jacob magleby and bishop W 0 lundgreen bert larsen offered the opening prayer and the benediction was given by peter C Lund lundgreen grden the floral offerings vere profuse among them was one given by the ladies aid missionary society of which mrs hodge was a member before leaving for arco idaho A large crowd was in attendance to show their respect to the departed monroe people are pleased to note that the town is again tree free from the influenza there are a few cases still under quarantine but all are well or on the road to recovery A number of soldier sare expected this week those with the field artillery are lamar morrison arthur lundgreen arnold johnson eldred nay john whiting clifford gregerson and glen crabbe arrived from camp lewis a few days ago ernest wells who is anxious to see his baby boy is ia expected here as soon a as he serves his quarantine time of four days out in joseph with his parents mrs wells and baby are getting along very well parents Parent 1 of john larsen received letter aletter a from him stating he was in siberia with the U S troops J D spiers principal of the high and loretta jennings principal of the grade school at monroe LI onroe both report excellent results in tile the correspondence and consultation method of conducting their school work the high school teachers occupy the lower floor and the grammar grade teachers the upper floor of the grade school building each teacher is assigned a room and meets the students individually for consultation to check up on their work the students are required to wear masks this plan has the approval of the local health board and parents are urged to cooperate the majority of the students are now at work and the number is increasing several new students began their studies this week A circular letter just sent out by Prin principal ciral spiers assures the patrons and students i that school work would go without interruption in one form or another to tie the end of the school year and asks an all to cooperate and make the school year successful even under these unusual conditions the influenza situation Ss Is rapidly i improving no new cases have de during daring the past two weeks i at a meeting of a number of the citizens of monroe held on sunday at the city hall all present endorsed very highly the work of the city officials and advocated continued edrict regulations until the situation was cleared also to continue tor for some time after they alro albo indicated their willingness to aid in the expenses of the regulation mayor joseph smith and his workers coworkers co felt much gratified at the expressions ot of hearty support as their only desire is to serve the people and guard the health of the community |
