Show SS it Is rather a pitiful exhibition of penuriousness on the part of ohis great nation that the boys who have volunteered and those called by the selective draft must return their uniforms within four months from the time of discharge from the service v we do not know who originated this idea but we venture the guess that it originated in the brain of some bureau tightwad who has seen service in a safe little office in washington who is in the class of fellows with a commission and who undoubtedly wears spurs as U uncle axele joe cannon opines kopines the spurs t to be e to keep the feet or of the fellow with the commission in washington from slipping off the desk as he sits with his pedal extremities cocket up on a desk thinking such big thoughts thou gats as that of making the boys give up their uniforms there 1 is a sentiment back of these uniforms that makes it imperative I 1 M pera tive that every man in the service during the great struggle should keep the uniform what in the name iame of all patriotic patriot ic does uncle sam want with those clothes they will be put away in the quartermasters ter masters departments in various camps throughout this country and will be given over to moths and dry rot the lesson to be pointed out to future generations of the great struggle for liberty which each wearer of a uniform in the great war will hand down to his children will be lost and the boys who fought and won will have nothing to show their children and their childrens children for the months of struggle and sacrifice which they gave to the cause of oi liberty councils of defense defence red cross chapters patriotic societies and the press all over the country are aroused against als unheard of bit of penuriousness on the part of some g government 0 rement employee di and nd its dollars doughnuts to the boob who originated this never saw service other than that he saw in some office offic e driving a poll pen or a typewriter we have no patience with such an order let the boys boye keep their uniforms uncle sam can afford this and anyway its a sate safe bet that these uniforms if turned in will be allowed to disintegrate in the musty chambers of a government storehouse it if the boys are not worthy of their uniforms they fought in they worth having in the service |
