law josh carpenter william carpenter P enter maurice bee bert william parks and J L ewing with their wives and a jolly crowd it was not one minute of time was squandered fort douglas was visited salt lake city and her most attractive av e points of interest were taken in and most remarkable mining camp was pretty thoroughly explored bingham is a wonderful woud erful place it is growing very rapidly so rapidly in fact that it has already outgrown its allotted space there is no more room for expansion until the utah copper company finishes its task of removing a big mountain which is located exactly in the middle of the townsite actually the people are forced to hobble their hen s and range them under the house the houses are built one above another up the mountain sides in many instances s they are so near straight up and down that the kitchen girl in the last house bouse can throw her pan of dish water over the house of her neighbor into the street two blocks below 0 travelers on the street there is only one must use closed coney vances or umbrellas as a protection against these frequent showers street space in bingham is so precious that the cows are not allowed to traverse T them they are taken to pasture on the neighboring mountain tops by means of tramways tram ways the return trip was made by auto mobile in a nice overland that was brought home for father and mother parks of annabella and every mile ot of the journey was one of exquisite pleasure to one who has not been over the highway from salt lake to richfield for a number of years the trip is inspiring and refreshing it was very gratifying indeed to the writer to note the own darful improvement that has been made in his old home towns 0 of midvale and nephi during an absence of less than three years from midvale a wonderful change has taken place hundreds of thousands of dollars have been expended by the smelter people on expansion and permanent improvement now new industries have been added a new sugar factory is all ready to take care of a beautiful crop of beets which Is nearing harvest many new business houses bouses and beautiful modern residences have been built and a splendid sewer system has just been completed A live weekly newspaper is accomplishing shing much with its policy of boosting tor for the things worth while to the community coming down state street to nephi the orchards and fields were found to be fairly groaning under ti the 11 weight of bounteous crops two railroads railroad and an interurban are doing a tremendous business all adoli along g the line at nephi where the writer spent the first five years of his residence in uth utah many important changes and wonderful progress was noted the thousands of aar acres es of land in the vicinity of nephi and that was covered with sagebrush nd lid greasewood and upon which only jackrabbits jack rabbits and sand lizards could exist only 9 few years ago have been transformed into a living picture that would serve as s balm to the most aggravated attack of sore eyes from the highest point on tile the old levan ridge one can see nothing but acres of nothing else in connection with the trip to please or profit the writer he be would have folt felt amply repaid for all finiel and expense incurred with the gratification afforded in one sweeping glance across that broad expanse of 0 fertile acres tor for it was lie he who gave the enthusiastic support of his newspaper in fit 1903 in connection with a little bunch of progressive in it urging the agricultural corege authorities to establish an experiment station there for the purpose of determining what us use 0 this vast body of waste land could best be put to the old nephi record and the progressives progress ives hammered on oil the subject until dr wid etsoe and prof merrill answered their call the experiment station was established and as a result the dry farms of juab county have put hundreds of juab county farmers on easy street for life have been the means of placing that county permanently and prominently toward the head of the list of producers and in making it one of the states biggest assets coming on home to our own dear sevier county on sunday afternoon we found that crops are just as good on oil the trip none of them have anything on sevier waving grain for miles and miles in in all directions it if
