| Show PROPOSED NEW HOAD BEING investigated route to fish lake that will eliminate much of heavy grade may be built A new road to fish lake which will eliminate most of the heavy grades and cut off ten miles or more from the present road which reaches within six miles or so of alpa is a project that is stirring to action some of the business men and auto owners in this vicinity A few years ago an auto road through mahogany canyon was proposed and a road was actually built but after two years this was abandoned for autos owing to the havoc wrought by summer freshets fresh ets which would wipe out sections of the road in a few hours making it ispass able then came the change to the lor boig z route which followed the wayne coun ty road for about 15 miles from burr ville and then another ten miles to the north to reach the lake this road was no snap but it was better than taking tile the risk of the mahogany logany canyon road this year have gone to the lake they like the long journey around so they have gone over what is known as the hogback a roal road leading up a steep steel ridge to the south of mahogany logany canyon its only objection being the steepness of the road and the danger that would follow a break of some important part of the driving or steering machinery or the carelessness of a driver this hogback hog back but not every car could negotiate the claims this road can be built for less long hill now comes a proposition from acm lcm burr that he has found in a route that will eliminate the mahogany canyon the hogback hog back and the loa road routes shorten the distance and give a five per cent grade to the lake he claims this rod can be built tor for less than and make a good auto road that will lead into the upper reaches of the hogback hog back road without the long climb mr burr is out this week running a line over the proposed route and lie he will report ills his findings as soon as possible if this is feasible a number of busi business men in richfield and vicinity will undertake the financing of the proposition with such a splendid mountain retreat as the fish lake country within reach it will be a reflection on oil this com it if cannot be raised within 10 days to complete this promised route the state road commission the county commissioners the citizens of the county should all combine to construct thib proposed road and at the sanie same time straighten out the grade on oil the east side of the Durr bunville ville hill ill down burr creek A good road to fisli fish lake is no longer a luxury it Is ia a necessity |
