Show i I 1 A T mm 0 L 0 Y 0 pig LER GOES TO BOOM another pioneer of sevier county has gone to his final rest in the duntin of archibald todd aldroy l of glenwood last sunday sund ay iy mr was one of the best known men in the county and had been through all tile the trials and of 0 the early settler he was born in glasgow scotland january 4 1844 and came to utah with his parents when he was nine years old and settled in fountain green making the journey across the plains on the old emigrant trail As lie he grew into young manhood lie he was called to make two trips back to the missouri river and one trip to the north platte for emigrants and supplies so that he be had a varied experience as a plainsman and pioneer he was a member of the first company of settlers to invade sevier county ault y and settled with that company at glenwood where he assisted in establishing that settlement which was then the headquarters of the county he remained there until the indian uprising drove the settlers north he was a soldier of the black hawk war and saw service all along the sevier river liver and baa back in the east mountains helping to resist the invasions of black hawk and his marauding ma followers when the indian treaty was completed he returned to glenwood and took up his farm life again when the united order was instituted mr was made bishop of glenwood which position he held tor for 12 years he was also a leading vocalist of those days and he led tile the ward choir besides engaging in all the activities tivi ties of the community life mr air has been ill for many months and his sufferings the past winter ha haie hae e been severe he died last sunday surrounds by his family funeral services were held field in the glenwood ward chapel on oil tuesday and all his old friends were present to pay tribute to him for his many excellent qualities of mind min 1 I ini and heart the speakers wore were C W powell henry buchanan william J W payne and P C B peterson of richfield all of these paid high tribute to mr for integrity honesty and community leadership members of the old choir who had sang under mr OId Old direction voiced a tribute to him through pearl handi ickson and sirs C W V powell voiced the appreciation of the relief society for the decedent appropriate mu was given by the ward choir interment was in the glen glenwood wood ceni ce metry etry decedent leaves a wife and twelve children chil dien these arc archie I 1 bishop of lyman peter niels john isaac albert and andrew I 1 all of the latter b being eing bishop of that town lorin T 1 richfield and mrs jane heile 1 son soil airs agnes peterson mrs colleen bell of glenwood and mrs kate oakland of lyman department employee eDil loce mr ir yoking had to submit samples of stone and sand that acio wei a to be used in the construction st and the department refused to permit work to proceed until a report from those thee sampler had been hied filed now the red tape is over and work will be pushed rapidly until the edi alce is completed |
