13 ball of the county schools held an all important meeting last saturday with the school principals from each of the district and high schools at tile the office of the board of education this was probably the most important meeting held by t the ile educators to rs of the county this year yea and during tile the two sessions very deri definite nite and far rea reaching ehing plans were laid for nest years work one of the big bic in ill this thi county lin has s been tho the wain maintenance cc of 0 the three high schools it has been understood that the financial difficulties difficult ie Is of 0 the school system 1 l were largely duo due to tile the high school main maintenance t elial ica in ili the past efforts have been made to reduce this expense by Lilt claing ting the high school courses coursed and maintaining but one school in abla county where a 4 year course could be given this met with opposition from the citizens of monroe and salina and the same old question of how low to make the revenues of ali the district stretch over the high schools and grades and maintain efficiency recurred each year now a tour four year cour course se will be given in each high school in the county superintendent t ell lent ball has evolved a plan whereby the plants of the high school can call be utilized by the grades and this plan virtually follows the lines instituted in ili utah aidi and wa which ich I 1 is gradually being adopted nationally the plan obliterates tile the old lines of primary grammar grade and higi hibb school divisions a and 11 d institutes th C primary junior high and senior high sc school hool the plans aniced upon at last sat ui clays meeting consist of the nary work being carried forward ats as heretofore the filth and ami sixth grades will ill lie be given departmental woi work such as is is now done in the high school the departments will bo be history hirs and art arithmetic and hygiene nature geography and elementary inen tary agriculture reading und and oral expression music and games lil libi gillary lary iry work one teacher will have eliav charge of each of these department and at the time for the change of classes students will go to the roo room in assigned for this particular subject As aa there are six sections to these two grades in ili richfield each teacher will have at least twelve classes each cach day dav the plan for the seven seventh tit and I 1 eighth grades will be for thea these c cl classes ss to use the high school plo plant tit during tile the time nhoi the high scho school 0 1 itu denti are not using tile tho eitl equipment p this will be in it the forenoon the rhe hoys boys will vill be given wood work woric ind and agriculture while the girls will have home economics domestic science and art all boys and girls will have physical education games and drills music band and orchestra for those who desire tt ft and a school chorus will lie be part of the forenoon work in ili the afternoon these grades will be given dep department artmont work at the grade buildings in ili tile the other subjects of the curriculum these changes which W will 1 11 institute the junior high school will lic be made without any increase in ili ted teaching eh expense in ili fact a S saving v ng wl will 11 b ba P effected and the high school plants will be brought into operation oil during th entire day the principals discussed this work freely and tile plan i ia unanimously adopted the matter of the schools in fit the district not adjacent to high schools was also discussed and plans are boing being bong beng 1 ng con considered to have the department work idea inaugurated in ili these schools this may require a radical adjustment of facilities and space but it is expected that such adjustments can be made whereby the improved ni curriculum can be fitted to these outlying districts the superintendents letter to the principals and also to the board of education pointed out some of the discrepancies in ili the educational system among these lie he called attention to the tendency in education to bookishness aidi and a consequent lack of 0 activity ile he attributes much
