Show SEES BRIGHT FUTURE FOR DAIRYING INDUSTRY wesley king predicts success for proposed creamery if given support by local people wesley king treasurer and director 0 of f the mutual creamery co of salt lake city and one of the states most successful business men was here during fair week and a few days following in the interest of his cn concern cern he Js is devoting most of his time in the placing of good dairy cows among mutual patrons and to selling stock in the company and is doing his good share of business I 1 mr king called on the reaper editor monday and expressed his kind appreciation of the complimentary remarks this paper chronicled for himself and the president of his concern some two weeks ago he took issue with us in a manly way on a few of the points as suggested in m our article with reference to the creamery question but gave his hearty commendation to the article in its majority he stated that it was not the purpose of his company to thwart progress of the organization of a creamery at richfield but gave it as his opinion that the people were on the right track and that if they would organize such a concern and give it due attention no better investment could be made and that the state as well as the sevier valley would profit in consequence fo we found mr king to be a very fair and interesting conversationalist and in the interview many statements and facts were presented by him that should prove of value to our readers he said in part substantially ly as follows 1 I am convinced that the sevier valley will in a short time become the principal oillie state my associates in the mutual agree with me that conditions are ideal here for feeding and handling cows and the resources are even more favorable here than in cache valley all that is necessary is for the people to awaken to their interest and turn their attention to dairying during my visit here I 1 have heard many arguments against the cow some of your people think honestly enough no doubt that there is no money in cows my only answer is see cache valley or seehoy see any dairy section of the united states and you will see prosperity wherever you find people engaged in dairying you find high land values good improvements and liberal bank accounts all the whole answer my company has determined to do what it can to assist the farmers of these mountain states in getting more and better cows we are ready and willing to invest several hundred thousand dollars in loans to farmers for buying good dairy stock and we are willing to take our pay in their own production we know that the cow will do her share if the farmer will do his there are in the state of utah today approximately cows on farms averaging acres to the farm of this number about are to be found on 2000 farms in cache valley leaving 62 cows on farms in the rest of the state of it is safe to say that easily are boarders I 1 cows that do not earn their feed this leaves only good producers in the state scattered over acre farms or about one good cow to every acres of cultivated land im ashamed of those figures and so are you why the mutual creamery people are boosting for more good cows 1 I have advised the promoters of your local creamery company that in my opinion it would be good bus iness iness for them to invest as many dollars in loans to farmers for buying good cows as they invest in theil plant and equipment I 1 think this essential and a guarantee of the per manent success successor cf their enterprise for every dollar put into the plant a dollar should be put into new good cows help the farmer to get them and take the pay out of their production for every goodbow good cow put into sevier valley this year there will be five new ones four years hence this will encourage the farmer to buy on his own account and in five years a wonderful transformation of this valley will result in cache valley the utah condensed milk company made the first shipment of good cows into that section and sold them on time just as we are doing now the state some independent dealer began importing the agricultural college took a hand in the game and well now everybody in that valley has a cow there are about two cows to every person old and young while in the remaining port portions ions of the state there are seven persons to every cow and half of them are no good the cows I 1 mean 1 I asked a richfield farmer the ot other her day if he was making any monay fron from his cows he said no and then he started out to milk at in the morning his cows were standing in a dry feed lot why I 1 wonder how M many any people there are in the state like this ibis man |
