Show ASK FOR CONVICT LABOR ON CANYON HIGHWAY commissioners name committee to seek state aid for building sevier canyon road the county commissioners met in regular session tuesday all members being present aside from the regular routine business there was litter of importance demanding thier attention this month the question of a new road through sevier canyon from joseph to marysvale Marys vale was discussed at length and while the commissioners fully appreciate the necessity of this road and its importance to the county and state in general the question of funds appeared as a gigantic obstacle and here was where three men got right down to business and began to do some hard thinking it was not long however until someone suggested that if there was a chance to get some help in the way of prison labor they might see their way clear to begin construction work immediately it was further suggested that since this section of the state has never had any help in the way of prison labor that there was every likelihood of our petition being granted accordingly a committee comprised of D P jensen president of the commercial club jos L staples chairman of the board of commissioners C W hawley road commissioner and an henry dHenry larson ex county commissioner was appointed to wait on the state authorities at the earliest possible date with a petition for prison labor on this road the committee left this morning for salt lake city and if they are successful on their mission the new sevier canyon road is assured |
