Show wittingly L Chill childrens rens parade one of the most pleasing I 1 features of the day v independence day was very fittingly observed in richfield Rich Held on last monday the program as published in this paper last week was carried out to the letter the city as a whole presented a neat and patriotic appearance the canon committee was johnny on the spot and no one was heard to complain of the salute being fired too late in the me day or that they were even too s stingy with their powder the brass band began early and the boys did themselves proud throughout the day there was music everywhere and all the time the childrens parade was a delightful feature of the celebration it was entirely out of the ordinary and very interesting from the fact that there was great variety of costumes make ups creations decorations etc unusually seen in such demonstrations it was evident from the splendid showing made by the several hundred childred that the parents had entered into the day with a true patriotic spirit the two little girls of mr and mrs airs jonathan lloyd elegantly attired and seated in an artistic and appropriately decorated conveyance drawn by three small boys won first prize while the camp fire girls carried off second honors the afternoon program was simple and short but very impressive prof Ash tons oration being a number of unusual excellence the big opera house was probably never so crowded as it was on this occasion the perfect weather conditions and everything else being favorable the stage was beautifully der decorated and with uncle sam mounted on a throne in the back center with the charming goddess on the one side and fair utah on the other the setting was complete the ball game which was to have concluded the days entertainment was greeted with the largest turnout of any game of the season and but for the fact that monroe disappointed the committee by sending a supernumerary team instead of their regular aggregation the confidence of the people of richfield might have been restored and base ball put back on a substantial basis in fin the estimation of the people our team had trained faithfully and gone to considerable sid erable trouble in getting together the strongest possible combination they had promised the public something on the order of old time ball the people took them at their word and turned out handsomely hanso mely imagine their disappointment when after suffering a lorg delay a second or third rate bunch of players came over clad in their overalls and into the diamond the visitors did their best and endured the embarrassing embar assing thrusts that were hurled from the the gentlemen that they were atthe at the end of the sixth inning the visitors had not tallied while the local team hal hai rolled up a score running well into the teens most of the patrons had become disgusted and left the ground the fault is charged against mon ro roes es regular ball team |
